surrounded by vineyards and and quaint old houses. Some of the homes look like castles of bygone days. This part of France is one of the most historical parts of France. I guess some of these old places could tell some interesting stories if they could only talk. Our camp itself is situated in a vineyard and is surrounded on three sides by vineyards. We received mail twice last week but I wasn’t one of the lucky ones, but I am in hopes of receiving a dozen in the next mail.

have to answer their call.
Monday morning and I am at it again. I have nothing to do this morning but to write and to wash clothes. I have to wait an hour or two before I start washing because it is to cold.
I forgot to tell you how much I am getting paid over here. I am getting 232 1/2 francs which is about $41.00.
The Liberty Bonds sold fine in our regiment, I don’t think there were more than two or three that didn ‘t buy one. I bought one and it will be just $5.00 that I don’t have to worry about every month.

one to-night so I will have to quit.
There is one thing I wish you would make, and start early and that is a fruit cake. Just a small one will do but I wouldn’t feel like it was thanksgiving or Xmas unless I had some.
I will send a telegram home thanksgiving and Xmas to make sure you hear from me.
Love to everybody

be welcome. I asked Allie to send me a sweater which will come in handy and perhaps save me many a cold. I have a little cold now but it doesn’t amount to much. I am going to the Dr. to-day anyway to get something to break it up before it gets any worse. Well I will have to stop now and put a few sticks in the stove to keep the fire going.

Dear Ma:
This is the Spiker that we thought would never get here. The publisher blamed it onto the censor. There is one Spiker that I didn’t send and I am going to hunt one up and send it home.
There isn’t anything new except that we got paid to-day. We also expect mail to-night. Here’s hoping I draw.
I am fine, never felt better in my life. Just ate two francs worth of pastry so you can figure I havn’t lost my appetite yet.
Love to everybody
