come after us. Ben was sick. Couldn't get anything to eat. Walked into Chery in search of food, but everything was blown to pieces & no food. Got a can of sardines that were spoiled. Got home at ten thirty. A wonderful trip. Very beautiful scenery, enjoyed it very much. Earnie DeShane came after our load with No 9. One of the 550 fellows towed us in. "All in" Ben sick.

No 6 on par. Stayed in camp & made cabinet for our suits. The convoi went out to the lines in frunt of Soisons. Got shelled.

Dick, Cutie & I very low from the party the night before. Herb. Brown and Guy Colden left for Maux. The quartet gave probably its last concert. It impressed me very much. I couldn't help but think of the fraternity spirit that has grown up among the boys & it made me feel rather sad to think that the unit of 42 men was breaking up.

Foster & I washed No 11. Had a great time with Wit & Bert Hope in the small French Village. The natives had never seen any Americans and we stood on high with them.

Heard that the Boshe plane that we saw had to land at Soisons. The pilot was killed. and the observer got control of the machine. They had a picture of our camp in their camera.

began when we started home. We were the last car and had our French friend with, who proved to be a good sport, and with plenty of money. He was a whole sale liqure [liquor] dealer before the war, and had charge of France's liqure [liquor] exhibit at the P.P.I.E. (Panama-Pacific International Exposition) We stoped [stopped] no less than fourty times from Soisons [Soissons] to camp. because of the French drivers stalling their cars and not being able to crank them. One car broke a fan belt and they took the whole fan off to put a belt on. Two more cars ran out of oil and ran on just the same.
