horses over in the states.

They sure would be worth some money. They use ox teams a good deal here too. Has Duke been called yet? Tell him to get in the navy or Quartermaster Corps.

How did you folks celebrate the fourth? Suppose you went to Atascadero or Santa Maria. I celebrated up in the woods back of the front lines listening to the guns roaring and shells whizzing by. Well mother this all I have to say this time. Hoping you are all well & all write as often as you can. I remain as ever your loving son,

Albert N.

P.S. Has been raining on and off here all the time. Hows Queen?

Regards to Fred and family & tell him to write.

You can smell one five city blocks away. You better get you a tank and try it. ha-ha. Got a letter from Shakespeare awhile back & he said that he tho't he would enter his powerful Ford roadster in the May day races at Santa Maria. Tell him I will answer his letter Toot-sweet if not sweeter. Did Geo. Woods ever get back or not? Epperly is still here

We will stay either at Paso Robles or Santa Maria to-morrow night. I will write to you from there, dear. It is just like you said, one would think I was going to be gone for ten years instead of two weeks. I am worrying for fear we will not be home until a week from Saturday. You will be here when I get home won't you, dear? I will miss you so much. You told me to pick out some other young man. I just guess
