am on guard. Corporal of the guard. Not bad though, get eight hours at a stretch, and then I am through.

Shriver arrived with 60 cadets from Italy last night. We are layed off for a couple of days until the Italy fellows get a little practice on these machines. The Boche have Rheims, Soissons, and are back as far a Loupeign. I hope the Devils sleep well in the barracks we bult at Jouaignes. Pete Peterson just told me that we are only going to get $50.00 pay this month as our pay is cut to $75.00 and we got paid $100.00 last month when it should have been $75.00. I don't know where I am going to get off at with $25.00 alotment and insurance.

Friday May 31, 1918.

The dirty Boche are back to Fereen-Tardenois tonight. -- Stood muster at 4:15 this morning. A most unearthly hour for muster. Went on as corporal of the guard at eight o'clock. Have an eight hour stretch. Got off at 4 P.M. -- Received my commission and took my oath today. A liutenant was killed in landing tonight. Heard a very good talk and saw a good picture, "My Laddie's Slipper", at the Y.M.
