235 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 21 1887 The following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Rec'd Petition of Puget Sound Improvement Company and others for a sewer in Pike Street. Read and referred to Com. on Sewers. Petition of Trustees of M E Church for permission to use streets immediately fronting their lots on the corner of Third + Marion Streets. Granted with permission to use one half of said streets. Petition of Engine Co. No. 4 for a fire alarm bell, read and referred to Committee on Fire and Water. Petition of Wm Hammond and others asking that the or-dinance prohibiting the use of cow bells within certain limits be extended to Mercer Street; read and on motion tabled. Communication from John W McGee withdrawing owners consent to sell liquor on premises known as the Inde-pendence Saloon on East side of South Second Street and occupied by John Shepich, read and referred to Committee on Revenue and License.

Report and message of the Mayor read and filed. Annual Report of City Atty, read and filed. Applications Referred. H.M. Duncan, Committee Reports Rec'd. From street committee granting petition of A Slorah + others for opening Sixth Street from Lake Street to Broad-way. From Comittee on sewers granting petition of John Kinnear and others for a sewer on Battery Street. the Committee find that the sewer now constructed is not of sufficient depth to allow the surface water to run

553 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 3 1888 there being a tie vote the Mayor casts his ballot for Isaac Parker whereupon the said Isaac Parker is duly elected City Treasurer of the City of Seattle. Petitions etc. Petition of Jesse F Cochran & others for opening Light Street from Bluff Street to Bradley Street read and referred to the Street Committee. Petition of J D Lowman and others for a change of grade on [Fifth Street]] corner of Marion Street read and referred to Street committee. Petition of S N Sorensen for a sewer in Spring Street an a sidewalk on said street from Second Street to Third Street read and referred to the Committee on Sewers and Drainage. Petition of Winsor and Co to have Front Street between Pike Street and Union Street read and the Chief of Police directed to notify property owners to clean up their street fronts. Petition of Puget Sound Improvement Company & others to have property owners on line of Pike Street sewer compelled to connect their houses with the sewer in order that the street may be planked as heretofore ordered. Referred to Street Committee. Petition of G Beninghansen for perission to put a small building on west side of Commercial Street next to Harrington & Smith's store referred to Com on Fire & Water. Petition of J H Bridge for opening the alley in Block 31 of Maynard's plat from Mill to Washington Streets referred to Street Committee.

The following officers are present to wit: Mayor Robt Moran and Councilmen Burns, Durie, Green, Jones, McCombs, McDonald and Reitze. the following proceedings are had to wit: Petitions etc. Petition of Wm H Cowie for permission to raise and move wooden building in rear of his premises on East side of South Second Street between Mill & Washington Streets, read and referred to Com on Fire & Water. Petition of the Puget Sound Improvement Company asking that the provision of Ordinance No 837 relating to the widening of Second Street be carried into effect read and referred to the Street Committee Petition of the Puget Sound Improvement Company to have Second Street planked from James Street to Marion Street read and referred to the Committee on Streets Petitionof W F Dearborn to have the name of Cedar Street in Bell's Addition changed so as to not interfere with Cedar Street in Terry's 1st Addition read and referred to Street committee. Petition of M Keezer for permission to raise sidewalk on Terrace Street read and referred to the Street Com. Petition of W W Burritt & others for a sewer in Virginia Street, read and referred to Com of Sewers & Drainage Petition of W Copeland and others for a drain ditch on Tenth Street from Howell to Depot Street read and referred to Street Committee.
