Carthage 7 April 1829
Dear Sir
By this day's mail I received from you a Judicial commission to hold a special Term of the Smith Circuit Court commencing on the first monday in April 1829; Also a regular Term of said Court commencing on the second monday of April 1829 in the pace of Nathaniel W. Williams who has certified to you his inability to perform that duty. The condition in which I am placed in relation to the business pending in the Court, renders it proper that I should decline an acceptance of the Commission.
For this high and distinguished mark of your confidence & approbation I beg you to accept my warmest thanks & be assured of my sincere friendship & regard
Hr. W. Overton
