Vernon August 28th 1820.

To his Excellency Joseph McMinn,

Sir, This is to inform you that for many good considerations, I have and do hereby resign my appointment of Solicitor General for the 12th Solicitorial District for thos State conferred upon me at the last States General Assembly in 1819. Which District consists of the Counties of Hickman, Wayne Hardin and Perry.-

I remain with sentiments of esteem yours Respectfully. James R. McMeans.

His Excellency Joseph McMinn Govenor &c.

N.B. I think it would be admirable for your Excellency to fill this vacancy immediately as there are several criminals that ought to be tryed [sic] at our ensuing court J. R. M.cM.

Dear Sir

Mr James R Mcmeans Esqr the Solicitor for the twelfth district tells me that he will send on his resegntion to you by next male [sic], as such you will have to appoint some person to fill the Vacancy. Mr James Scott who lives in our Town will apply to you for that appointment in a few days. he is a young man of fine Morrals [sic] and very good abillities and I think will fill the place with credit. I should be truly glad if he should be ^so fortunat [sic] as to get that appointment I do verily believe if you were acquainted with him you

Dear Sir

James R McMeans Solicitor for the 12th solicitorial District informes me that he has forwarded his Resignation a young man by the name of Scott informes me that he intends applying for the appoint ment I am anctious [sic] that he should meet with success I think his talents inferior to none of his age & chance he is poor & honest beloved by Every person of his acquaintance Raised an orphan & acquired his Education by his own Econo =my & industry - I am in hopes as well calculated to do Justice to the District as any that may apply-
