letter for home Mail to leave about the 20th. per R.M.S. "Dane" paid acct. at Mrs. Parkes, Taylor's & washing 10/6. Ashore for the last time [with Mr scored through] came on board with Rodgers in Comunication boat yesterday met the general bid good bye.

Sunday Morning May 17th 1858. Got up early this morning made sail with very light breeze passed the Gipsy Bride Scotch emigrant ship in Quarantine. Capt. Grey went on board back for England. breeze died away & we could not get out that night. Came back & anchored in 14 fathoms. Bremen bark also put back & anchored close in shore.

Monday May [18 changed to] 19th. 1858.

Got up anchor & made sail again this morning early. The breeze was could not leave for fog

about an hour in hand & had a look at some papers. I saw the death of PJ Gregory in the home news. We also got from him a Belfast Whig & L'pool Mercury, & a basket of onions: by the time we left we had a good long pull back to the ship. We devoured the old news when we got on board very greedily. Long 85° East.

Tuesday June 22nd 1858.

We crossed the line during last night. the wind is still keeping light & we have not as yet got the SW monsoon. See by the papers there has been fierce difference between England & France & that Duc de Malakoff was to be French repre sentative in England. Fighting still going on in India & a good deal of desease among the troops offer of peerage to Sir Colin & non acceptance.

Commisioner & 3 loyal salutes fired one at the lines, the "Proserpine" & the Marine Bungalow A year today since I arrived in Calcutta from England.

Saturday Nov 20th. 1858.

Today commenced again to keep my Journal up regularly writing it every morg. after breakfast. We have returned two days ago from another trip to Kyauk Phyoo & Sandoway & depart tomorrow morning at daybr eak for Chittagong. had a slight feverish attack yesterday which followed purging & vomiting of the night before. Got up at 1/2 past 5 oclock this morning. weather very cool on deck. 12 oclock Been reading this forenoon Horners pamphlet on Homeopathy sitting on the Quarterdeck of the "Proserpine"

Up early this mg. still pursuing our course for Akyab At 12 oclock came to anchor in Akyab Harbour Sent off immediately for letters to Huson's had none. At dinner time the Captains letters came off bringing one from Mary Fred & Barry. Good news from all Barry promises 8P lent on T 20/- sent Oct 22nd. Answer to my letter to Sir Colin stating that Asst. surgeons are only appointed in England has nothing to say to such nominations. News that Bob Auld has [come struck through] gone [written above] home

at Singhgong

of the largest that has been killed in Sandoway. lay in the jungle three days after it was shot before it was found. very bad toothache all day.

Tuesday Jany. 25th. 1859

Left Singhgong at 1/2 past 6 [struck through: today] this mg. taking the Comrs. schooner in tow. Capt. brought word last night that the ''Nemesis" passed Saugor going to sea on the 13th. Made some Chemical Soap this Mg. to rub on the tigers skin. beautiful cool pleasant day. like a fine summer day in England Anchored at one ocl. off Ramree Creek Comrs. Schooner cast off & proceeded up the Creek to remain 2 days. remained on bd. all day.

Wednesday Jany. 26th. 1859

Up a little after 7. took Salt water bath. Cutter going up
