observation today a few miles out owing to the ship sheering about & cloudiness trying to learn the working of Longitude Therm: 80°. broke harpoon.
Monday June 13th. 1859.
Up at 6. weather beautifully pleasant. fine breeze. 194 miles today 1° 2° expect to cross the line this evg. Capt. says we ought to reach England in 35 days at latest. immense quantities of flying fish have been about some days.
Tuesday June 14th. 1859.
Crossed the line since yesterday with a fine breeze. we had one or two Squalls last evg. Therm 83° this forenoon 82° after 12. Saw a brig outward bound this mg. a long way off. Took an observation to day at 12 ocl & worked it correctly 1° 39

breeze has sprung up this mg. from the N.W. great quantities of weed in lines today. A large Grampus on the Sd.[Starboard] Quarter after dinner. Fore top & lower studders set. breeze very light.

Breeze has freshened today & we are standing on a direct course to England have passed the Lat. of Madiera 115 miles since yesterday fine pleasant day. light till about 8ocl & 4 mg. Therm: 76°
Tuesday July 5th. 1859.
Breeze hauled round to NNE about 2 ocl yesterday went on the same tack till 8 this mg. laying now N.N.W. air very cool & weather pleasant An immense shoal of porpoises passed today. a full rigged Ship in sight to to leeward supposed to be the same we saw on Sunday Therm 72°

Fine breeze in the WSW when it fell light. did 114 miles today on our Course. 1510 miles from England by Calculation.
Tuesday July 12th. 1859.
Quite Calm today & very warm a great quantity of fish like Bonito about & several small ones. been no wind all night expect wind soon as it want only 3 days of full moon. tried to catch some fish today but would not take the bait. Therm 77°.
Wednesday July 13th. 1859.
This day last year left Calcutta for Akyab in the "Cape of Good Hope" nearly dead Calm since yes- terday we have made 7 miles N & 9 E. slow work. do not know when we will reach England at this rate. large numbers of fish about. A Yankee ship about 5 miles to windward

After 12 today laying our Course with light Air Stunsails at 3 ocl. weather pleasant though warm. 4 vessels in sight to leeward. Therm 75°. fish in swarms about. Albecore & a shark went on the Dolphin Strike with Harpoon caught none

Light air all day. fair fine day & warm inumerable swarms of fish about 14 miles astern
Monday July 18th. 1859.
The day we expected to be in England not yet at the western islands fish still continue about in swarms struck one today with the harpoon Albecore. 3 more brought on bd. Payne 2 with

Thick & foggy drizzaling[?] rain regular Channel weather the Capt. says. A ship passed close bound southward this Mg. Therm 68°. Fish all left
Sunday July 24th. 1859.
Foggy this mg. but cleared off & left a fine clear day. got a good obs. first time for 4 days. 45° 4° N. a French Ship in sight bound same way as ourselves. 680 miles from the Lizard. a fine breeze tonight & fully expect to reach The Downs by next Sunday or before. weather cool & pleasant in the
