in infantry. I mean if that is [underlined] best for you. You know [underlined] I suppose that artillery is considerably more desireable [desirable] in every way. The infantry being the least desirable branch – however dearie it is you [underlined] who have the choice. So do what ever you [underlined] feel you would like best. Only I suppose if all are new ... you would be at no greater disadvantage than others would be – beginning at artillary [artillery]?

People ask for you all the time. Mrs. Hall & the Waltmans send love. Edith has had grippe for a week or two - was quite sick. We are invited to breakfast there tomorrow.

trip to India -- and has taken and passed his examination for Third Officer and sailed on The Ecuador as 4th Officer -- for the Orient. Isn't that fine?

Just think how proud your Father and Mother are -- of you all -- and as Mrs. Hall was saying the other day -Well -- There is one thing that Mr. Bates can do -- he can look every man in the eye -- as he comes down the street -- having all those boys in the service.

Russell Medcraft has been sent home from Canada -- having been rejected by the English -- He might have known they wouldn't have taken him when he was turned down here --

Well -- Edward -- I hope the "cooties" haven't found you yet -- and that you are well -- and happy - Do not talk

I hope the weather isn't too hot, because it will be very hard for you.

Mrs. Hall and Kitty Hall came down to-day, to stay with Mrs. Field until Sunday.

Geraldine Traphagen, and two other girls came down at noon to-day. They are staying at Santa Cruz, and were on their way to Big Basin. They asked me to go with them so I did. We had the best time. They have a Ford and it was killing riding over the bumps.

Martha & Mary Helen both send their love. I wish you could see the baby, her

say to me, but I know that you don't mean half of them, and one thing I hope and that is that you love me. Sometimes I am afraid that I love you too much and that something will happen to spoil it. I think it would just break my heart because I just think the world of you, dear.

Joc, Mother & dad arrived about 8:30 last night. Of course we were glad to see them. Mr. Field & Mr. Hall came down yesterday, they left Alameda about 1:30 P.M. and wanted to bring you down with them but said you were not home yet.

Friday night Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Field, Kitty & Palmer came over. We played games & had lots of fun.

Mabel & I are going to walk up to the P. O. now. Be a good boy, dear, & don't forget that I love you dearly. Hope you had a nice week-end.

As ever, Marion.

Send you next letter to Alameda, dear.

aint no storm, however it may all be for the best. I like your dad smiling when Mrs. Hall jumped in with both feet and laid me on the carpet, its a hopeful sign. Give my future dad a kiss for me, to be delivered personally when I see him. Don't dare send one to my future motherin-law, she'd think it a bit too precious and I always was scared of her.

I was going to write you a letter but so far haven't said a sensible thing, just whatever came into my head and its a jumble of foolish nonsense, am now going to soak my head in cold water and start again.
