My dear old Sned:

Just a few hurried lines to let you know that the enclosed letter came for you yesterday from Raymond Durney. I opened it, and Mother and I read it, then took it over to Joe & Mrs Durney who were very glad to be able to see it. I suppose you will at once write to Raymond, and when you do be sure to tell him that we appreciate his kind rembrances of us. Also give him our love. Jack & Ella & John slept at our house last night. Jack & Ella went out to dinner so John came to us, and about midnight they arrived. It seemed strange to have five at the breakfast table this morning instead of just Ma & Pa.

I have invited Hatch to come to lunch tomorrow at the Club to hear Dr Willis A Parker speak on "American Fighting Men in France". He has just returned from the front, and I believe from the recent battle on the Marne.

All well at home – Lots of love always your loving father HLA Bates

Gladys Emmons is in the canteen here at the Palais de Glace. Also Hilda van Brunt is here but I haven't been able to see her yet.

Ethel has been more lucky than I in running into or getting in touch with people she knows. So we've had a chance at seeing various sides of Paris life and doing a lot of sight seeing along with rehearsing. Thanks of Raymond Durney's address. Gladys said she saw him when "Let's Go" was here. If this catches you on this side or the other way bon voyage and good luck as ever Doris
