Home Thursday June 10/09

My dear old Edward,

I came home yesterday morning from Portland and found your postal card from Truckee, and was very glad to get it. I hope soon to get a nice long letter from you telling me all about the camp and how you are enjoying the life. If there is anything you need let me know, and address all letters to the office, as there is no one at home.

The Watermans got a post card from you yesterday and you said you had a swollen tonsil. I hope you are quite well again, but you must write me and let me know.

I saw Mother & Jocelyn Jocelyn Bates off for Billings last Thursday from Seattle. They got there last Saturday which is the day you left for Tahoe. They will stay in Billings about a month and will then take in the Yellowstone Park on their way home. The Exposition at Seattle is very pretty but it was not all finished when we were there. Jocelyn and I

Master Edward Bates

Dearest Edward.

We have enjoyed your letters and are delighted to know that you are enjoying the place so much. I hope you will continue to do so, dearie, and will keep well. Your Father forwarded your letter to him which I enjoyed very much. The snow much [must] be good fun to play in. This town is very much changed. So much so that it is no longer famliar, but I enjoy meeting a lot of old friends. It rained a lot after we came up but is quite hot now. hotter than I like very much – Jocelyn is well & is having a rather nice time. Swimming etc. It is not so interesting as your place I think but it will be when we get to Yellowstone park I think.

Dearest Edward

You don't hear from your Mother as much as you ought & she knows it. She is thinking of you often though when there is no chance to write. You are a dear boy & I hope you are well. Uncle Fred is going through Yellowstone Park with me & we start in a few days between Sunday & Wednesday. The day has not been decided upon, but I will be home within the next two weeks. Fond love dear from us all. Father will send for you soon. Your loving Mother R. H. Bates

Office: July 21/09 noon Wed

My dear old Edward:

Just a few lines to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 19th and postal of the 20th.

I had already sent you a one dollar bill as I expected you could not cash a cheque.

I shall be glad to hear that it reached you safely. If I am alive I will be at the 16th St. Station Sunday morning to meet you.

I hope you will have a fine trip to the top of Mount Tallac. You certainly have had a very fine vacation my dear boy.

I dont expect to write you any more as you wont get any more letters before you leave. I got a letter from Mother yesterday that she, Fred and Jocelyn were going to leave on or before [on or before underlined] the 21st (which is today) for the Yellowstone Park, and that she expects to get home by Sunday Aug 1st. You bet I will be glad to see them both.

Goodbye and have a pleasant trip home

Your loving Father H L A Bates
