Dear Edward.;
It has been some time since I received your letter and you can rest assured that I was tickled to death to hear from you.
There is not much doing up here; just work and very little play. Had a nice visit with Horace Moss and his Mother when they were here and it was very nice to see someone from home.
Went into Eureka last

Saturday and Sunday and had a nice visit with some friends.
Am still plugging away at the lumber game and get sort of discouraged at times but I guess any fellow does. So you liked it working at Sunset did you, you "scab" [underlined]. Yes, I knew Woods pretty well and my job here is similiar to his I guess only mine is not such heavy graft. It must have been exciting going to and from work with a police guard and it

is good none of you were "beat" [underlined] up.
The strikers evidently got it in the neck and I understand that the men are working with "open shop". I hope that the impending railroad strike does not go through because we would all be looking for a job I am afraid.
It must have been fine swimming all summer from reports from Edgar and Roberta and certainly wish I could be enjoying some of it. I had a swell plunge in the surf at Moonstone beach when
