506 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 18/84 Be it remembered that on this the 18th day of July, 8114 the Common Council of the City of Seattel meets in its CouncilChamber pursuant to the call of His onor the Mayor H G Struve. The following Officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H G Struve and Councilmen Thos Clancy, B F Day, John Keenen, Chas McDonald, B L Northrup, Otto Ranke, U M Rasin & F W Wusthoff. Thereupon the following proceedings are had: Petitions rec'd From Kate Regan for removalof racks & Rubbish from property. Rejected From W R Brawley et al for improving Front Street between Pike and Wall Streets for Street Railway. Granted & Street Commissioner instructed to Make the improvements prayed for. From Chief of Police for an increase of salary to $150.00 per month granted Atty instructed to submit an Ordinance therefor. From Gordon Hardware Co for the right to keep powder in Store Granted upon the condition that the Committee on Fire & Water are satified that the place of storage is safe. Licenses Ordered Issued L B Parker for grocery license for 3 months from July 12, 1884 F Claus for grocery license for 3 months from July 12 Miles & McCormick for retail license for 3 months from July 15 Wm Busha forretail license for 3 months from July 17 Miles & Thomas for retail license for 3 months from July 17 Claims PIad The following claims having been duly audited by the council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the funds & in the amounts following To wit: City Fund E S Osborne Services as Registrar No 745 $157.95 S D HoweMember of the Board of Registration 746 $15. 729 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jan 4 1886 Be it remembered that on this 4th day of January 1886, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council chamber pursuant to call, the following officers being present, viz: His Honor the Mayor Henry L Yesler and Councilmen J Furth, H Calligan, W A Harrington, Geo W Hall, John Keenen T W Lake, Charles McDonald, J J Post And G W Young when the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions and Communications Petition of J W VanBrocklein et al praying that the sidewalk of Terrace Street between Fourth Street and Sixth Street be repaired. Read and Referred to Street Com. Petition of A Elliott et al praying that a certain portion of Jackson Street be planked. Read and Referred to Street Committee and recommended by said committee that the petition be laid on the table. Report adopted and petition tabled. Petition of Frankenthal Bros et al praying that Jackson Street be planked from Commercial Street to Third Street twenty four feet in width. Read and on motion said is granted in so far as to plank said street from Commercial Street to the planking on Second Street 24 feet wide. Petition of J B Collins and J Howson praying that boot blacks be licensed in the City of Seattle read and on motion tabled. Petition of W R Brawley et al praying that the north side of Main Street be planked. Read and referred to Street Committee Petition of Wm M Preston praying taht Box Street be opened, read and referred to Street Committee

400 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Mar 2 1888 sewer to be of eight inch ironstone sewer pipe & laid under the supervision of the City Engineer. Adopted. From same committee granting petition of W R Brawley & others for a sewer on Main Street between Eleventh & Twelfth Streets. Approved. From Committee on Fire & Water granting petition of Fred E Sander & J W George for removing shed on the north side of the old Clancy Livery Stable Cor Second and Main Streets & erecting a two story wooden building in peace thereof provided said building is erected in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance No. 833. Adopted. From Councilman J M Frink submitting plans and specifications for new fire hydrant. On motion it is ordered that working drawings of the same be submitted to the Council at its next meeting. Applications for Licenses Referred. Schander & Morris & Gammon and Lewis Licenses Ordered Issued Bernard Kurz Jno D Morgan and Conrad Brehm, the vote upon issuing said licenses is as follows: in favor of the same J. Furth, J M Frink Joseph Green, T W. Lake, R Moran U R Niesz and Robert Russell. Against the same, none. Bills Allowed The following claims against the City having been duly audited and allowed by the Council are ordered paid by warrants drawn on the several funds as followed, to wit:

Petition of H L Taylor for a street light at the corner of 6th and Blanchard Streets Read and granted Communication from W R Brawley asking that the license granted to Alden S Chase for selling liquor be revoked. Read and Referred to License & Revenue Com. Petition of A A Kopf for the lease of a portion of Spring Street Read and Tabled. Petition of Chas R Brown et al asking for a change of grade on Tenth Street Between Terrace & Cedar Sts Read and referred to Street Committee.
