698 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Oct 16 1885 From Same Committee receiving petitionof S Sloane et al praying that North 7th St be opened and extended from Blanchard to Battery and recommending that the same be granted when convenient. Petition returned to Committee for a more definite report. From Committee on Sewers returning the petition of F Wilhelm et al for a box drain East side of 5th St between James and Cherry Streets with recommend that the same be report adopted From Same Committee returning petition of Fred Gasch et al for a sewer from Washington St sewer through South 5th Street to Mill St with necessary branches recommending that the same be granted. Report adopted From Same Commitee recommending the construction of a sewer in Union Street. On motion a sewer is ordered constructed in Union Street and the Clerk authorized to advertise for bids for the construction of the same in accordance with the plans and specifications to be filed.

743 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Feb 5 1886 From Same committee returning report of the chief of the Fire Department in regard to Engineer James Ingraham with the recommendation that the same be tabled for the reason that there are no charges made against said Ingrahamsave that of ill feeling. adopted From Committee on Beach Road reporting that of the 40 lots across which the proposed road would run the free right of way had been obtained of 33 and negotiations were in progress to secure the right of way across the remaining 7 Report adopted and on motion the City Attorney is directed to draw the necessary ordinance establishing said highway. From Committee on Public Grounds reporting that the soil of the City Park was not in suitable condition for transplanting shrubbery and recommending that the matter be indefinately postponed. adopted From the City Attorney reporting that Geo H Wright is not in in his opinion entitled to the return of his Road Poll tax as asked for, as the said Wright was not connected with the Fire Department at the time the assessment was made and therefore cannot claim his exemption. Adopted Also an verbal report from the City Attorney that in his opinion the ordinance for the licensing of the sale of fruit trees heretofore submitted is invalid. 1 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 7 1886 Be it remembered that on this the 7th day of May 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law The Following officers are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor H L Yesler, councilmen R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young Thereupon the following proceedings are had: The record of the proceedings of the preceeding regular adjourned and special meetings are read and approved The following petitions and Communication are received From Mrs J Finnegan for permissions to conduct a public laundry, on motion the petition is granted. From Mrs Snyder & Mrs Winscott for permission to conduct a public laundry on motion the petition is granted From James Murphy for reonsideration of action in denying his petition for reimbursement for injury received while acting as Special Police officer on motion the petition is referred to the Finance Committee U M Rasin now appears for petitioner and requests have to withdraw the petition. A motion is made to allow to petition to be withdrawn pending which Councilman Furth rises to a point of order that the petition having been referred to a committee cannot not be withdrawn the point of order is sustained From J W Jones for permission to peddle articles of his own manufacture without a license referred to License Committee From A Walters & Co for rebate on liquor license referred to License Committee From Amos Hurst et al for opening of and sidewalk on 3rd Street from Battery toDepot referred to Street Committee
