Fort Worth. Texas, April 13th. 1898.

Mr. W.H.Ward. Chairman of Public Grounds Com..

City:-

Gentlemen:- You are no boubt [sic] aware that I am an aplicant [sic] for the position of City Sexton. I have resided in Fort Worth principly since 1872 and you gentlemen probably know whether I will prove faithful in the discharge of the duties of this position should I be appointed thereto.

I have never before asked for public preferrment at the hands of the people or their representatives and would not now do so, but a recent unfortunate circumstance of which you are probably aware.

If you believe me conpetent and trustworthy and can find it consist ant with your high sense of xxxx duty. I shall be indeed grateful, if you will recommend favorably my application.

Applicants for appointment to membership in the Police Department must answer and subscribe, under oath, in the office of the City Marshal, the following form of statements:

The application of J. W. Anderson for appointment in the Police Department of the City of Fort Worth, represents that he is a resident of the City of Fort Worth, and now resides at No. 769 East Front Street, Fort Worth, Texas; that he has resided in Fort Worth since 1888 and in Texas since 1882; that he is a citizen of the United States; that he was born on the 21 day of Feby 1866 at Nashville; that he is 5 feet and 11 inches in height, and weighs about 175 pounds; that he is married and has 3 in family; that he has been by occupation a R R Conductor; that he has not been a policemen; that he has not had rheumatism; that he has not had piles, that he has not had kidney complaint; that he has not had an affection of the bladder, that he is not in the habit of using intoxicating liquors as a beverage; that he has not been convicted of any crime; that he has not paid, given or promised any money, property or other consideration to any person, directly or indirectly, for any aid or influence toward procuring his appointment, and that, if appointed, he will obey and comply with such rules and orders as may from time to time be made by the City Council and the Committee on Police, together with all laws of the City Charter and ordinances of the City of Fort Worth, Texas.
