On the 8th day of Aug.1898. Mr.H.D.Gunnells, tendered me his resignation as Asst' Chief of Police, which was accepted by me,and on the 9th,day of Aug 1898. I appointed with the approval of the Hon.Mayor, Mr.Jas. A.Allen,my Asst' and would ask confirmation of said appointment.
