Thursday

Dear Catherine,

I am now taking the Tb cure for 6 wks - and I have some spare time for a change so I will try to catch up on my back correspondance - of which there is an enormous pile.

My 6 wks on this service began on Sunday + immediately christened it by getting a beatuiful cold - which doesn't make me feel any too good. I am not used to all this cold fresh air, all at once. I nearly froze the first day - but I am a little moer used to it now + rather like it.

I have had 4 tough services in a row + now to get one more there is so little to do - seems wonderful as well as funny. The [?] "cure" all the time - so what little we do has to be tucked in where we can get it. [We?] have breakfast at 8 AM - cure 9 - 10; up from 10 - 12- or in bed as the case may be. Dinner at 12; cure from 1 - 3; then have visitors 3 - 4. Supper at 5; cure from 5 - 7, visit from 7 - 8, bed at

7P.M. A big day! We do pneumo Thoraces in the morning as well as aspirations; the rest of the work just gets fitted in.

The camp is about 2 miles from the the hospital & is rather nice. The county supports it, so most of the patients are in the county. We have a fluoroscope here, sun lamps etc. Any X-rays are done at the hospital. The ambulance comes for us if want to come in for any conferences etc. One would need a car if he had to stay here all the time. I live in the nurses bungalow, with the dietitian, the occupational therapy teacher, a nurse & the supervisor. They are rather fun, but I am spending most of my spare time in bed, as I intend to make the most of my opportunities. I go on surgery next for 3 mo. and there I shall be kept busy

They have 4 puppies here - English Springers - registered dogs & I am wondering if I am going to be the proud possessor of one. Heaven's knows what I should do with it. I would probably have to surprise my family with it, and after giving them a cat last year, I am not sure how they would take this gift, especially as these dogs get to be good sized! The resident here wants one, & he wants me to get the male so we could breed them. A couple of

Nuts I should say!

I wonder how things are going at the Institution. I have wanted to make another visit, but my time is so short when I can be at home, that I feel I should be there. I had a nice letter recently from Mrs. Wilkins, a surprise, because as usual I owe her one!

Since I saw you I have had Obstetrics, Though, now I recall I was there just before gyn. gynecology & psychiatry. Ob was fun-although it was somewhat slow & I had no abnormal service cases. The intern before me had everything -- 3-4 forceps; 3 sets of twins; breech extraction; while all I had was a forceps on a private case. That was a horrible experience. Dr Garrick, the chief of the service asked me if I wanted to do it -- of course I agreed althought I was a bit wary about such a case. Everything seemed to go all right. I got the blades on properly, & pulled & pulled. I did an episiotomy at the proper time etc. When the baby was
