Dear Irene:
I was happy to receive your letter today. I think you are doing very well to work so steadily and to save your money.
During most of August I will be away, but I will write you again and tell you a good day to come and visit me as soon as possible.
It is too bad that you have had difficulty about your teeth. I am going to talk to Dr. Barry and I will let you know if there is anything that we can do to help you with this problem.
Write again and tell me how your are getting along. I love to hear from you and send you my very best wishes always.
Sincerely, your friend
Miriam Van Waters

REFORMATORY FOR WOMEN MEMORANDUM
Date: 12/9/50
To: Dr. Van Waters
From: Miss Dickinson
Re: Grace Morrell
I interviewed Grace's mother this afternoon and during the interview she told me that one of the many persons to whom she has been to try to get Grace paroled had told her to see you or have Grace's husband do so. I told here that there was nothing that anyone could do to get her paroled for Christmas, unless the Parole Board had been willing to act-which she says it was not.
After the interview, the Officer who took it told me that there was an indication that the husband has an appointment with you on Tuesday, December 12th. I am on a Field Trip on Monday the 11th and thought you should know what had gone before so that if you have an appointment you will be prepared.
Mrs. Conroy, Grace's mother had told her that she would be at home for Christmas-- that there was no question whatever. I have done all I could to prepare her for what happened today. She has been told that the only thing that I can say positively and know that it is true, is that she will see the Board in 14 months from the time of her admission and that it is always possible that she may see an early board but that there is nothing definite about that.

Dear Dr. Van [torn]
My hu[torn] me Saturday when he came to see me, that he had an appointment to see you tomorrow Tuesday.
Dr. Van Waters I am very worried because I feel my husband is very discouraged. Would you please explain to him when you see him that I don't have to serve my whole five years here at the Reformatory that I am due to see the Parole Board in fourteen months, December, 1951 as stated on my card. I know he knows this but he just doesn't seem to realize it. It is hard for me to realize it also. Also that my two five year charges run concurrently expiring October 16 - 1955. My husband felt it was foolish for us to plan our future at home now as he feels it will be five years before I am home again to him and the children: I tried to tell him this was not so I will be home much sooner to him & our children. Please help me to straighten his mind on this matter of my time here.
I appreciate very much how kind everyone [here?] is to me and all I am learning, especially all the lovely things I have learned to make for my husband and children. These things I have learned will help me so very much when I go home, also my School Review, and Typing, also my stitching in the Shirt Room. I realize how selfish and wilful I have been and this experience has brought me out of it very quickly.
