Dr Van Waters, I took [--------?] thinking out just how long it is but [--------?] I wanted nice things and I was just to lazy and shelfish to learn to sew and make some lovely things myself which I can do now, nothing like this trouble will ever occur again, because I realize what is my breaking the law. Also it is breaking Gods' commandments. I have been a very selfish and narrow minded girl and I just had to grow up. I have two lovely children which now can be very proud of me because from this experience I have become a much better person both inside & outside. I want my family to always be proud of me, and we shall benifit from all my insight of practicle living and the thankfulness of a home and children which I felt in a way may tied me down, I know that the children never tied me down at all, I tried myshelf, by my ways and thoughts. I want to thank you for giving me the part in the Thanksgiving Program it gave me a selfconfidence I needed very much. Did I loose my husband and family very with and trust in God that I should soon be with them again. I thank you for letting me pour out thoughts out to you in this letter.

Very Sincerely Grace Morrell Grade I

Miss Dickinson:

Re: Grace Morrell

Mr. Robert W. Gallagher, Engineer of the Mercury Oil Company, contractors for the City of Newton, was asked by John Foley, direct supervisor of Leo Morrell, Grace's husband, who works as a laborer for the City of Newton, to come to intercede for her.

Grace's mother had been to Mr. Foley, saying she was helpless, this was Grace's first offense, and she had been unjustly committed and should be released.

MVW showed Mr. Gallagher previous court record. Mr. Gallagher went away convinced RW was doing all possible for Grace, and there was no reason to intercede for her release.

MVW agreed to let him know if circumstances changed. He appeared an intelligent, interested, conscientious citizen.

Dearest Dr. Van Waters:

I am writing you this letter to tell you how sorry I feel for saying the things I did and also writing the things I did.

Dr. you can never understand and know how much I have appreciated the things you have done for me, and the privileges you have given me Dr. in going out to work by the day. Dr. I have never felt so low that I wanted to take my life, because I want to live and make good, and show everyone who has been so good to me that there is a lot of good as well as bad in me. If you plans have not changed in my seeing the Board of Parole in Sept. I have a nice job and a wonderful women to work for. If I get refused I will grin and bear it. I have a sister and a father and brother whom I love and I want them to be proud of me. I have suffered quite a lot Dr. and I think it has made me bigger and braver to face life and take what God has to offer me and be satisfied.

I like my work in the dairy and I feel very happy when I am working out. I am eating good and I sleep good nights.

I want to make you proud of me some day Dr. so for now, I remain,

Your Student

Betty (Betty Morse).
