1811 Remarks on board the Nancy Christian Sound

Sunday Febuary 24th
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Day fresh Gales at S.S.E. Part Cloudy and
Part clear,--- Several [large, bold, flourished] Beggars
Called on Board to pay us their respects and Welcome us to
this Place. those on whomb we bestowed Some favours appeard
to be thankful, but those who Shared none, would Curse us
till out of Site, it is Said that this little Village contains many
People of this Discription,--- and those who cannot Beg will
Borrow to Pay when we return, Beggars and Theives are so
near allyed that when you fall in with one, the other is not
far distant, This town lies in the Latitude of 63°,,11' N. and
7°,,30' East from London. It is Situated on Isleands of Rocks
a Very Barren Wilderness, for a Stranger to behold
Some of our Crew on Shore for the most of the Day, took on
Board 2 Quarters of Fresh Beef, at 8 Oclock. this morning
our Pilot left us for Drontheim. Furnished him with Pro
visions for the Journey, and Sent Some Letters. So ends the

This Day fine and Clear Weather. Small Winds
from the S.E. took the remainder of the Sheet Cable
between Decks.--- also took on Board 2 Kasks of Warter
Imployed the rest of the Day in Spinning
[large, bold, intricate, flowery letters] Spunyarn
and many other Small Jobs. According to Mr H,s
account 40 Beggars called upon us in the Course of the
Day,--- A Brig and a Schooner came to Anchor near us
Thomas Indisposed and Did no Duty,

Teusday Febuy 26th

This Day Clear Weather throughout, and Brisk gales
from E. To S.S.E.--- at 10 Oclock a new Brig Capt.
Smith Sailed for tother Side, In the morning the
Boat went on Shore for Warter, but could not Pro-
cure any,--- Receved on board 6 Vogs of Ship Bread
All hands Imployed in Ships Duty,
Gave the lower Riggin a good coat of
[large, bold, centered on the line] Norway Tar
Also many of our old Custimers called along Side
for Charity. So ends the Day blowing at S.S.E.
