when mixed with alchol it tinges the flame with green, In 1811 Sir H. Davy decomposed Borascia acid by Galvanism Boron is a dark olive color in a powder it is analogist to Carbon [?]

Sulphur is formed in all volcanic districts it combines with nearly all the metals like Oxygen as at the formation of the earth all things were simple therefore they would form the different compounds. If we take Bisulphuret of Iron and heat it, one proportion passes off, some Chemists call their Sulphide Sulphers will meet at 226° when it is heated until it grows thick then place it into cold water and it can be moulded in any form, then at 600° it sublimes and forms the flowers of shulphur. When burnt it forms Sle When any part of a mixture of Sulphur and iron become hot it will then continuely condensation thus keeping up the combustion this acid is used to bleach & with it destroys the color of a rose but can be restored by Ammonia. Sle2 put on Ag O = SO3 and lea[???] it is thought this gas destroys color but its affinity for Oxygen it can be formed another way thus 2 SO3 + [??] = Sle3 [???] So2. Basil Valentine obtained shulphuric acid which he called oil of vitriol because it poured without noise and is formed from Sulphate of Iron or Copper. The Sulphuric acid of commerce is obtained by burning 8 parts of Sulphur and 1 of Nitre.

outside of a room with a draught to draw the vapor into the room which is lined with lead and the floor covered with water, thus [?] x No5 x {??} = S O No these two gases and vapor form a solid that - 2 falls and 2 SO3 No4 = 2 SO3 No2 then this rises and so on. Sulphuric is put into vessels called Carbon[??], these are heated in a sand bath to drive off the vapor, this acid stains wood by taking away the Oxygen and Hydrogen and leaves Carbon take a pound of this acid and by its attraction for water it will double itself in a year Bar[??] is a test for Sulphuric acid it forms a white preciputate.

Sulphuretted Hydrogen is formed thus SO3 + HO + l {S??] = SO3 {?????] this smells like putrified aggs, it throws down the metals from solution.

The Hydrogen unites with the Oxygen of the oxide in solution forming mater and leanez the Sulphite of the metal, Sulpher aslo unites with Carbon formed by passing the vapor of Sulpher over hot Charcoal

Lecture 31st Nitrogen and its Compounds

Nitric acid is prepared by placing dilute sulphuric acid in Nitre of potash it forms sulphate of potash and liberates Nitric acid, thus 2 SO3 HO + No5 - KO = 2 SO. + KO No5, this acid was discovered by Dr. Pai[esll]y the year 1756. Potoxide
