I dare-say you have thought
by this time, that I am like the rest of the world
ungrateful in not acknowledging by writing at
last & letting you know how I have been since
my release. ingratitute is not an attribute of [mine?] I am ^today^ [indecipherable]
I would have written from Ashfield where I stayed
10 days, but I thought I would [indecipherable] it until I
got home. I substantially acknowledge your
disinterested kindness not as payment for your
trouble but as a token of my profound appreciation
of your truly Christian philanthropy towards your
fellow-creatures particularly those labouring under
the direct affliction restricted freedom, too often
unjustly inflicted. At the present moment I am
unable to fulfil my intentions as every thing
has been taken from me by [Logan?] [Haworth?] other
wretches employed by him took my unmortgaged
cattle per force from my brother-in law, he has
become the possessor of my brand on 200 head
cattle & homestead with several hundred pounds
of improvements. He has taken brands that were
never mortgaged. I believe I can pull him with
the man employed for cattle stealing. I have
