My own dearest Mother,

The Wednesday mail gave me your dear letter - I am truly thankfull - that dear [Floyd] was getting on so well - also that dear [Butler] [cold?] was better - I know my darling Mother how dreary you must be - [ah?] I often think of and wonder how you are employed just at this moment - [Fancy?] see you [watting?] about the house or garden - and how often do I wish that I just could "pop" down by your side and [take? be?] but round with you talking [our?] all our affairs but that cant be - I have not seen our dear little [Appy] for two days - Yesterday it rained hard all day- and today it has been raining off and on all day- so that I have had to content myself with send =ing [Middleton] twice each day - and
