Secretary of the Pioneers to engross that Memorial of Condolence to send to Grant's family -- Took it to him, with engrossing papper to do it on -- Overhauled my journals, & made transcript of record as to time 1st V & T RR got through to G H & Va [2] Dit it for Yerington, son Ed -- Col on hand this evening -- Through at 2 -- Bed 3:30 --

Cloudy & sultry -- About 12:30 big rain set in for about 1/2 and hour -- rained like the Devil, in regular old cloud burst style -- Everybody out to see it rain -- Streets sheets of water, and gutters all running full -- Sewers well [flashed?] Torrents
Big Rain Sam Crescengo Grant Engrossment My lamp
down the cross streets -- Not much damage done down the canyons -- Whole city & mountain got good wholesome washing off -- Bed at 2:30 -- clear & warm -- Got letter from Sam Crescengo today asking about stocks -- Got my lamp filled at trimmed all right and had it burning this night when I got home and also a little while on the evening when I happened in --
