Wm. W. Crapo Esq

Dear Sir, Being informed by F. R. Whitwell Jr that you have the Settlement of Barque Favorite Claims will you do me the favour of giving me the Amount of the Claim that Mr. Whitwell as Agent presented. I as 1/4 owner of Said Barque, signed the instrument but do not remember the Amounts I have put in a Claim for Personal Property destroyed, but none for my Services the 14th part of Cargo not Insured, I relied on the Other-Owners to Allow me this 14th but as circumstances have changed I presume you will have the kindness to acknowledge my dues, there are but two others I think who have any demands, the Remainder - Officers & Crew

To Wm. W. Crapo. Esqr

Dear Sir, Yours of 19th of July is at hand haveing been absent the past Month from Augusta, did not get the Letter & Documents before, as to signing these Instruments I must decline, I have sent in my Claims for Personal effects destroyed to the amount of $2000 I also signed an Instrument forwarded me for that purpose, by F. R. Whitwell Jr., also signed by himself & Sisters on Account of the loss of the Barque Favorite & Cargo this I think was Valued & damages 130,000 dolls sence I have been absent I have put in a Claim for 1/4 of Catchings, not hearing from you, I should not have done this, had affairs remained as they were when I was on the Barque as I should have relied on them to have paid me my proportion of the Catchings having been always intimately connected with the Family for 30 years I have always found them honorable in all their dealings. As to the expenses

I cannot see what benefit an Agent will be in all Legitimate Claims, or what Proof it requires the Proof of Ownership in the Custom House the quantity of Oil & Bone was Sworn to before a Notary Public by Myself & Mate in New Bedford and I presume was sent to the Secretary of States, being so Informed by Mr. Whitwell. if you have any thing more to comunicate shall be glad to hear from you.
