Tuesday 29th
Between 9 & 10.p.m. the Whole of the Camps was Startled
by a Heavey Cannonade from Sebastapol & along
the line of Attack it was the heavest that as been herd
since the fall of Serbastopol Officers & all sorts was
Flocking up to Cathcarts Hill from Great Distent the
Corse of the firing was the Russians was coming over
in 7 Boats to affect a landing but when the boats was
under one of the french Battery the french opened a
Terrible fire on the boats sunk one & the outhers
retired. The Russians Commence a heavey fire from
all the Battery right round to Inkerman a Shell fell
in the french Guard boat Killed a man & nearley
sunk the boat a Round Shot went through the Roof
of the Town Mayors house the Cheaf of the Enemy fire
was Directed against the french side thay sent
shot & shell into the Redan & Malakoff
At Work at the 18th R.I. Very Cold Snowey & windy
all the week & Diffrent Rigments reviewed in the
Ravin [Ravine] and Ball Carthridge fireing

Thursday 31st
Very rough at sea with Snow
