Feby 2nd Plowing to day claiborne & Big Henry Cutting wood to burn Plant Bed, in slash Billy & myself put up & Covered Bee House to day got done by dinner nearly

3rd Sent little Henry to Mill at Yates to day with 4 Bushels Corn for me ½ Bbl for Henry, some Sorghum Seed & some corn for chop for cows Pretty morning cold, Pride gone to Mrs Colemans to go with Mattie & Alice to CH to school Board at Mr Hargraves & Mary Coleman gone with them - to stay at Mr Hargraves for with Mattie & Alice & Mr Hargrave gives her ½ he gets board for one of them for her to attend to his business while they are there & charges me $15 pr month Board (enormous) a ps says he cant do it any lower – 4th I went to SS. M H. this day fixed Block to front doors halled ps. there for Horse Blocks nailed up Horse shoes for me to tie[?] our Horses had Blind Tushes Knocked out of Molleys mouth Cutting wood for Plant Bed

4th Fannie & Mr Wm Came down yesterday 4th cloudy this morning & like for falling weather

5th. Burning plant Bed in Slash Pride gone to Mr Pannills to hear something from new London School got Robin shod before give him shoes & money for that, - cold weather ground hard frozen, - Finished Burning Plant Bed

6th Pride did not come till this morning or about Dinner Jerry came back last night Cold weather Fenced in Plant Bed this morning sewed it last night Fencing in new ground this evening & Halling wood, with mules sow that was sick is something Better, Billy Hunt came here Just at night to work on Garden, cloudy & cold - he got 10 Post

1866 Aspen Grove Feby 7th Henry &claiborne, his son […] Bees this morning hot here before 9 […] Safe, little Henry Halling wood. balance […] in new ground, cloudy & cold like for snow Billy getting Garden Post this morning & Just set in to work. very cold

8th. I went to Cedar Hill to day, & went to Rolands - our folks finished new ground fence & then Halled Leaves little Henry Plowing - Double Plow Billy Hewed Garden Post & making Door to Bee House this evening - did not finished it

9. Halled Leaves again this day Henry plowing Halled up Garden Post & forks for Horse rack Billy fixed Bee House door, made Bench Horse & put up Horse Rack, Beautiful weather Pride Hunt started to new London to school Jerry carried him, over there, fine weather

10th Halled Rails out of new ground & finished new ground fence, etc Henry Plowing & broke his Plow I went to Strait Stone meeting fine weather

11th Kate & Mr Moses Came here last night we went to meeting to day fine moderate weather my young sow that has been sick so long had 4 Pigs last night & I did not know she was in that way at all, - we drove the mules to Car. =riage to day to Strait stone, they pulled fine

12th. Rained some, Rolled Logs to day in new ground & ps in fresh ground, above Neals old Barn put up 15 or 20 small heaps only 4 small heaps in new ground Jerry help us with 2 hands send some Pea Hulls down for Sheep & got 2 waggon wheels from Big McHaney waggon to Hall wood - etc

13th. claiborne Henry & Ben shrubing in fresh field Little Plowing in Lot back of old prize Barn I went up to Cedar Hill got some Peach sci[?] home set them back of smoke house done up back of our chimney - I found Jacob P Graves

14. Trimed Trees made lines etc. Plowing & burning cloudy nearly all day & began to Rain about night

15. Windy last night & this morning very cold Sent claiborne to old place to Roll Logs 2 Henry gone to Plowing Ben picking up Trash ingroundnew Very Windy & very Cold Wind from west. Continues very windy & Tremendous Cold

16th. Another very cold day not so windy Burning Log Heaps little Henry & his Daddy Sent claiborne again to old place to help finish Rolling Logs there. —— 1 Sheep Died I went to Abrams shop got Bill shod before new shoes changing 1 pr behind left Iron for 1 pr new shoes to be made

17. Still cold & very cold, thermometer nearly down to zero Burning Logs heaps in fresh field - I went up Mt airy

18. cloudy & Rained Some last night & to day raining & freesing no day fit for Prayer meeting at SS.M.H. I caught my horse but did not go on acct weather Began Began to Rain hard about dark rained hard all water coarses very high

19. Ground in a float of water & branches high Milly Ann Sallie Ben & claiborne went off Saturday night to Keens to Candy Stow & has not returned since making 2 or 3 times they have been off Since Christmas. getting off Sorghem seed this morning early -

20 cleared off Sent Henry to Yates Mill 3 Bus Corn for us ½ Bbl for Henry & sorghem seed & shattered Corn for chop for Cows Jerry came down last night

21st. Beautifull morning Set Logs heaps on fire yesterday mending them up this morning 2 Henry plowing Halled up the 1st stacks Oats to feed on yesterday carrid my sheep to fresh field

22nd Feby 1866 Both Henrys Plow[ing …] other in fresh field for Corn clai[borne …] Log Heaps in new ground this morning Beautiful weather, I have been complain[ing] Several days tho getting a little better Halled up 3 stacks Oats to get out for seed, Mr Doss came here to night from Franklin brot. letters from Sallie, Sent Sallie 110 lbs Bacon, Some Peas cotton Dress stockings & a little Brandy – weather moderate to day

23rd, Triming trees Plowing & Raking in new ground cloudy & like for rain, I am going to Riceville after nails for Garden Billy at work on Garden came here yesterday evening after dinner & went to work tho quite unwell, work till evening this day & stoped.

24. started to Plowing claiborne burning log heaps & cleaning up in new ground I made Pig Pen in Lain & it begun to Rain & Raining very hard Billy here doing nothing much, weather moderate It rains every few days pretty near this winter Rained nearly all day branches very high indeed

25. Sunday cleared off last night & this morning very pretty weather, Bride gone out from house

26. Getting out 3 stacks Oats to Sew this day halling Straw to Cow Rack & oat Straw to Cutting House

27th. Plowing 2 Plows, claiborne cleaning up in new ground moderate weather 1 one more sheep Died, Turned out my sow with 5 Pigs Raised here with her first Pigs I went to Chalk Level

28th Plowing 2 Plows for Corn fresh field claiborne Halling wood Chips etc out of new ground, burning leaves etc —

March 1st. Began to colter in new ground Plowing 2 Plows for corn in fresh field John J Lain Came fix my screw to work B[faded] Billy Came & went to work Thursday morning came night before

March 3. Plowing 2 Plows claiborne Coltering Halled out straw this evening finished Garden about 12 Oclock Billy mending Ell shoes

4th A little Cooler this morning 2 lambs Kate sent 2 Geese here this morning

5. clear & cool Plowing this morning & Coltering in new ground will sow over Plant Beds to day & cover them with manure Billy been here 3 days last week & this monday at work on Summer House or for vines to Run on & Expect to plant a few Irish Potatoes this evening – in Garden Fixed Plant Beds sewed them over & expect to plant Irish Potatoes tomorrow & finish Summer House still clear & fine weather, 3 Lambs 1 Diedis poorly

6th. Sent claiborne to Mill Yates 4 Bus. Corn for us 2½ Bus. for Henry & 5 Bus. Oats to Mr Perrys to exchange for winter Oats got them - clear & moderate weather, Began to Sew Oats this day Billy mending Dorans & Milly Anns has mended Ells. Planted Irish Potatoes in Garden Planted Beets & Salsify working in Garden, I finish Summer House to day myself Ell work Grape vines & manured them Billy done but little to day nothing but mend one of Dorans shoes cloudy & like for rain claiborne got back from Mill by 3 oclock
