8 Dick & Alex cutting wood - worming & succoring Tobacco, getting up & Beeting some Crabs. I went to meeting - clear weather

9th I went to meeting Sunday

10 Pulling fodder I went to CH on business of Estate & for myself etc about children going to school & certificates of savings Bank Dick & Alex cutting wood

11 They are do same & malling wood worming & succorring Tobacco cloudy & like for rain Pride gone to old place & Mrs Colemans to make arrangements for the children all to start to C.H. to school to G.D. Neal

Sept 12th I went to meeting House about H Templeton & G. Pearcy - & to the shop had my horse shoes changed Billy here at work this mon morning clear moderate day & weather Pride & Doran Mattie & alice left yesterday for school at CH

13th Daubed up & cleaned out old prize Barn, & then Pulling fodder & tying up, etc Dick & Alex Pulling fodder from 10 Oclock till night. Billy Hunt Sew here to day -

14 I went to old place & Jerrys our folks pulling fodder Dick & Alex all day tying Billy Hunt Sew shoemaking - clear day

15th taking Care of fodder stacks 1 stack

16th. I started to Court Saturday I went Rice to see Bro Brown about Bro Pearcy & Templeton

17th At Court Monday our folks stacking fodder fodder Tying up Tops making scaffold to Cut Tobacco, cloudy & warm weather Dick & Alex cutting & put wood Cutting Tobacco in new ground Dick & Alex Cutting wood

1866 Sept 19 Put up another Stac[…] making 5 stacks put up Cutting To[…] & finished in new ground & Cutting som[…] in ps in fresh ground Dick & Alex cutting & Cording wood to day. I went to strait stone to see Mr Pearcys & H. Templetons settled by Bro A. B. Brown Pringle & J.S & Hubbard very warm weather at this time

20th. I went to Yates Mill Carried 5 Bus Corn for us & a bag for Henry could not get it ground no water I went on to Mr Millers Mill they had water & ground it directly but there came up a cloud Rained smart Gust soon as it was over I got my half of 1 Log My meal & started for home & Just did get home & got the meal in smoke House & it rained very hard Several showers, - warm weather

21st cloudy & rainy this morning Put up Broken Leg Hog yesterday. -

22nd Halled up 700 stacks out of new ground & some from fresh ground in Corn field Tyed up the fodder pulled & put on the stork Dick & Alex Sawed big Oak & 1 Willow Oak 2 Cuts of each for spokes & fellows

23rd little cloudy to day I went to Jerrys yesterday

24. worming & succorring Tobacco firing old prize Barn cloudy & rained a little before night Dismissed Charlotte from here on actt of her Situation give her felting & some warp for her

25 worming children’s clothes some meal & meat here is gone& succoring Tobacco Dick & Alex cording wood this morning & Rained about day break & sun rise

[…] more or less till 12 oclock […] 5 of our Bigest Hogs in lot to fatten […] Nannies 4 thats wasbeen about the House Our folks have done little or nothing to day I told little Henry If it rained him Milly Ann & Ben must Come & help me fan Out Rye & flax seed = but they went to Succorring Tobacco & did not Come to the granary

26th worming & succoring Tobacco cloudy & likely for Rain -

27 Rained off & on most all day worming & succoring Tobacco, finished all but little ps in Corn field Dick & Alex pulling fodder Billy Hunt [unclear] Came 10 or 11 Oclock & Pulling fodder too, 7 hands pulling to day

28. Pulling fodder & tying up & cut no tops finish pulling, Dick & Alex pulled & old Billy looks like Rain tonight I went to Mrs Colemans old place Jery Mrs w worsham & Farthings got childrens clothes & shoes

29th. Rained all day long moderately -

30. Rained more or less all day Sunday Jerry Came here & went home

Oct. 1st looked like clearing off this morning but it Set in to raining again & Rained more or less gently all the evening Old Billy here & doing but little Dick & Alex here too to day malling wood, still cloudy & rained a little all day

Oct. 1st Dick & Alex finished malling & Corded wood this evening cloudy settled with them

2 Dick & left this evening our folks succoring Tobacco cutting tops getting wood at new Barn in fresh field cleared off warm

1866 Oct 3rd settled with Billy & entered […] up to this day he is gathering Beans to […] & helping about fodder 1 day more Turning over Blade fodder & cutting tops to day clearing off warm pretty day lent Jerry my horse yesterday nanny gone to Susan Roarks but not see her at all my Broken leg hog getting well

4th Tying up stacking sorry fodder & tops

5. Cutting Tops & tying up, stacked 1 stack Sorry Blades old Billy left here yester= day & I settled with him in full I went to Millers Mill to day Carryd 2½ Bushels Corn for meal for us lent Big Henry 2½ Bus. & little Henry 1 Bushel brot all home old Henry is to return me 3 Bus. & little Henry 1 Bushel & pick at gathering time - I Brot home from Mill my Log sawed into flooring Plank & Carried 1 Log to day to pay for that, my other timber is there sawed

6th. Finished Cutting & tying up tops this evening & then Cut & Halled some wood & lightwood clear fair day & moderate Put up 7 Stacks Blade fodder caught in the rain & very little account,-

7th. Pretty day Sunday

8th. Cutting Tobacco & Hanging

9th. Cutting & Hanging Tobacco 2 days about 800[?] I went to CH to Carry childrens clothes

10 Halling up Tobacco & Housing new Barn Crews likely for rain this morning — about 12 O clock it thundered lightened & rained tremendous hard, did not get done housing what we had out

13th. Cut Some Tobacco at Crews, I went up to Mount Airy to see A J Lewis but he not at home, firing or smoking Tobacco in new Barn at Waterloo Cutting Tobacco & trying to finish I am going to Millers Mill after Plank & get Hounds for waggon Sawed, Carry about 4 Bushels Corn for meal Did not go to the Mill on account of Rain, Rained more or less all day Lent Jerry Bill this evening to go on River

14th Went to meeting S Stone

15 cloudy this morning firing fresh ground Tobacco in new shingle Barn nannie & me are going to Chalk Level & get Bill Shod worming & Succoring Tobacco & Cutting all we have

16 Finished Cutting & hanging Tobacco

17th made Top Stack frame & stacking Tops to day nannie gone to John Lewis I went to Mr Pringles this morning Clear Beautiful weather no frost yet

18th Finished Halling up Tops & stacking & finished this evening Mr John A Pringle & Mr John Gilbert came here to day as referees between me & my negroes & decided that I should divide agreeable to the contract & that I should pay myself $37½ Dolls out of the Tobacco for the loss I sustain by having to drive off claiborne the 18th June last & Henry agreed to stand to their decision & they divided
