[…] Rained all night & Continues […]ing Turned Cooler work on Basket […]rable change in weather fine yesterday […] cloudy & misting rain yet fencing this morning & Halled Load Rails from waterloo for lot – Went to Plowing after Dinner Halled up 1 Load Oats this day Contrary to my wish & without my knowledge for which I am vexed & little Henry out of place this morning I went up to Mr. Moses to see Kate who is a little better I think still cloudy & like for Rain

19. Listing for corn, cleared off —

20th. Began to plant Corn this morning Henry laying off little Henry covering with Harrow claiborne droping Milly Ann & Ben planting with their feet Wm Compton come & got John J Lains oats that he had here made last year – moderate weather, we have so few Collard plants I am going to sew over again to day the 20th

21st. cloudy & like for Rain planting corn to day I am going to Mr Keens this morning – Mrs Stanleys & old place, & Cedar Hill cloud come up late in evening & Rained very hard at night. Warm weather at this time

22nd Cloudy & like for rain this morning Little Henry dont feed nor Curry my horse at all I dont think he goes to my Stable

23. Sent claiborne to Yates Mill 3½ Bushels Corn for meal for us 3 Bus. for Henry & Sent Abraham 2 Bushels corn for Back Smiths work Cut 2 Pigs & marked 5 shoats of the sow in woods Rained last night hard. Halling out manure to day etc I went to warn in hands to work on road

24 Sent claiborne to Mill after meal Halling out manure to day,

1866 April 24 claiborne brot my […] for Jerry rained Several times yester[day…] I went to work on road from Jerrys to H[…] grove meeting House, Mr Pannills han[ds …] at his Tunstalls plantation did not come cleared off to day & quite cool & windy

25th. Rained 2 or 3 showers to day & the Wind Blew very hard blowed some fencing Halling out manure in Lot Cart & waggon cleared off before night quite cool

26th I went after Sallie at Jeres clear fair day planting Corn Milly Ann washing Lila Complaining - cool frost this morning

27th Very cool & some frost planting corn

28 uncovered Plant Beds, some body stole my Sallet out of Slash Bed in a day or Two past cloudy & like for rain planting Corn to day next to mountain spring & Owens barn young Milly was found with a very likely Calf yesterday Several days old

29 Planting Corn snaps & Pumpkins Seed yesterday & I went to Cedar Hill & settled with Mrs Stanley cloudy to day & like for rain, warm yesterday cool to day the following is the table showing the last worth or prices of gold in Confederate money during the years 61. 62 63. 64 & part of 1865

2nd Planting Corn & snaps in Granary Lot. Peas Pumpkins Water mellons etc, planting Sugar Cane Seed worked Onions Snaps Potatoes etc in Garden, Watch my yellow dog missing night before last, - dont know what has become of him he is up at Jerrys

3rd. May 1866 coltering & Hilling in new ground in fresh field fix Land for Corn to day wet spots, & Halled out some manure went to Kates she is still quite sick

4 Planting Lent Jerry my Horse Friday evening to N[?] C J.B. went too to go wet spots & Hilling & Coltering I went to Shop got Robin shod& put on 2 shoesbefore 1 new shoe made

5th Plowing in little new ground by house finished Hilling in Fresh field & planting Corn I went to Peytonsburg on acct of Est. when I came back I found none of the negroes doing any thing but old Henry gone from home -

6th cloudy & likely for falling weather quite Cool this morning - going to take cattle out of Corn field Sent little Henry to see Kate Sent her some Peaches & want to hear from her. she is a little better

7th Coltering in new ground Halling rails from Cow Pen raking up manure & fencing where it blew down Turned young Cattle in field at Stony p[o]int & mule Julina & her 2 children came here this evening & wanted me as Exer JDH Decd to let her off from her bargain at plantation. I would not do it

8th Coltering Hilling in new ground to day cloudy & very cool weather & has been ever Since april came in

10th. Fine Rain last evening, about night Planting Cotton & Potatoes Irish to day Simbling Seed etc by negroes House

11th. Planted Cotton Pumpkins & semblings Plowing in manure in Lot rained last night cloudy & likely for rain to day quite warm now, - halled wood, - Mill ann Sick yesterday & to day took Physic

12th Plowing in manure in Lot for Tobacco beautiful clear day I went to meeting My wife with me Fannie at Strait Stone to day Sick with chill & fever, Kate is better Pulling up scare Crows to day in Corn field

13th. I went to Meeting S.S, Fannie sick at Dr. Estes yesterday, & come to my house Saturday evening. pretty weather, quite cool

14th quite Cool since the shower rain yesterday Planted Tomatoe to day & Beets screan & some Pumpkins Seed in Cotton Patch I have worked Some snaps to day, Plowed Snaps & Irish Potatoes

15th Went to Shop got Lewis Yates to Cut my Buggy Tire, Abram p[a]inted Colter & I went by Thomas Yates & Brot Mrs Furbush home with me for Sallie, Coltering & Hilling in new ground here at House Worked out Snaps Irish Potatoes in Garden tolerable Cool & windy, - cloudy & cool

16th Coltering & Hilling new ground Picking Plant Bed above House this morning Planted some few Greens last night, finished new ground

18. & 19 Very hard rain friday night planted some Tobacco worked on road etc, replanted corn part of the day yesterday ——

19.th Planted some tobacco in new ground

20. I started to CH to Court & Saw Doct Barksdale – & he told me Jacob Hunts case was droped Mr Banks has not done any thing with my acct Current yet but would have it done by Superior Court gave in my list Taxable property & the Estates to Mr Bradshaw & got home 21st at night & found Sallie sick & Henry & claiborne gone from home, clear & Cool weather

22 had to send Big Henry after Doct Horton Henry came home while I was feeding Horses & Hogs. I said nothing to them but told them to go to replanting Corn where they left of[f] Saturday Still clear & cool Sallie H Whitehead had a fine Boy child this morning between 6 & 7 Oclock, Mrs Furbush sent for Doct Horton he came Sometime after it was all over

23. 24. 25. 26. Plowing corn & replanting Corn not done, Planted new ground Tobacco Friday rained Friday Evening while I was in Lynchg & rained more or less all day Saturday I went over to Lynchg sold our Tobacco all Low, Saw Pride settled with Mr Winston for his schooling & Tuition got home Saturday evening

27th Sunday clear day & weather warm

28th very windy this morning & cooler than yesterday Planting Tobacco in fresh ground towards mountain

29th Cloudy & like for rain this morning Sent claiborne to Yates Mill with 7½ Bushels wheat for flour 4 Bus Corn for meal 2½ Bus. for Henry, 1 H. Hoe to sharpen 1 Colter to fix that has has been p[a]inted
