1871 Janry 19th Plowing for Oats. Sam & Martin Cutting in new ground Sam Hauled wood till 12 Oclock & then Cutting in new ground I Hunting Hog but could not find them

20th. Plowing I went to Mr Haveys hired Patty Harris to come here next week, found my Hogs at old Tom Lains & brot Dorons shoes home & Paid him & then went to old place waggons back from Lynchg yesterday evening sold wheat Lard etc etc clear pretty weather,

22st Very pretty Weather I went to Prayer meeting

23 James Doron Hunt started from here to Capt Haleys to go to school to Mrs Walker $10 month board & $2½ month for Tuition I Carried him gone 2 days – our folks Cutting wood for Plant Bed

24. Burning plant Bed clear pretty day I come home little before night

25th. Coltering & sewed it to day 17 yds squarechoping & fixing plant Bed I am going after my Hogs at Tom Lains cloudy & like for Snow or Rain

26th Parry Harris Came here to milk cook & wash yesterday evening Mrs Wyatt left to day Hailing & Raining & quite cold Put my Hogs in pasture - Hung up meat to day & done but little else Martin has not been here to day at all – Joel Tucker Came here this evening my dog run at him & he cut him with his shoe Knife I fear badly.

27th. Striping Tobacco in Barn back of Garden Hauled out Cart Load of Straw to Rack Hailed & Rained nearly all the day

28th Hailed & Rain some striping Tobacco & taking down to strip sent Ben to Post office quite cool & very slippery weather, Joel Tucker Cut welch yesterday with is shoe knife.

1871 Janry 29th. Still Cloudy - the sun shined a little in evening weather more moderate

30th Still cloudy & we striping Tobacco back of Garden nearly done mine in that barn Creed J Tucker & Edmond Tucker here about their matters, as pr agreement I hold, Martin Smith striped 3 days last week & to day

31st. Striping Tobacco cloudy Martin striped,

Febry 1st Striping Tobacco & Raining nearly all day Martin striping weather more moderate Martin striped5 days this days makes, cloudy more than a week,

2nd Feby. Finished striping Tobacco in Barn back of Garden Miller Came down to strip Richards Tobacco to day. —

3rd. Sam gone to Millers Mill Carried 2 Bags Corn for me 1 Turn for himself 1 Turn Corn & 1 Bushel wheat for Marten Carried to Mill Richard Whitehead Sent here 2 Mules & 2 negroes after fodder for himself Sam got all his meal, & brot it home drying day Martin Sam Tucker Ben & Lewis striped Tobacco for JR Whitehead this day

4th. Tom Lain & his 2 Daughter Come back again to strip Tobacco for Richard Whitehead clear & moderate, Sam will hall some straw out to Rack then a load or Two of wood for himself then he will take Martins place with Sam Tucker & Ben & Lewis striping Tobacco for JR Whitehead. I am going to James Kelleys & Mr Hunts place, clear day weather moderate

5th. Moderate & tolerable fair my wife gone to see Sallie as the weather is moderate Millard Whitehead carried her & before night snowing - weather cooler —

6th Snowed nearly or quite all night Snow nearly shoe Deep this morning & snowing still Sam hauling up 1 stack Oats this morning & will hauled some shucks for steers & then some wood for himself snowing, Martin did not come to help haul Oats, but helped get

8th. Cutting in new ground all day & I went to Mr James Kelley - Nannie & Brot Joe with hercome home yesterday

9th Striping Tobacco in old prize Barn Millard W left & did know when to strip Richards Tobaccohe would return

10th. Hauled Straw this morning & 1 Stack fodder Cutting in new ground, to day & trying to finish snow nearly gone Did not get done Cutting in new ground I went to Mount Airy to day to get P. Pints

11th. I went to S S Meeting

12 Rained all night & Raining this morning

13. Cloudy this morning Cutting rail lumber On Out Side fence next to Mr Lewiss Martin Broke his axe to day Raining to night Joseph Richard son here Come home with Nannie last week I went to Mr Woodings to see Liza sick & then went to burning brush with Lewis

14th. We all Striped in old prize barn nearly done Striping all Sam has there Snow about 3 inches deep with hail Very Sloppy & disagreeable to day

15. Striped all we had in order & Went to Richards Barn & Striped a little thats Was down & in order = finished by 12 oclock 16th & then went to Cutting in new ground cleared off & weather moderate

17th Friday Nannie gone up John R Whiteheads Edd carried her Joe Our folks are Cutting Rail Timber in John's (field Rained & Hailed a little Dark night

18th Raining tremendous hard ever since about day Break this morning then cleared off

1871 Feby 18th Cleared off & the wind blew very hard all day took down nannies Tobacco & Striped it out & brot down to new prize Barn & took down all Richards tobacco in the body of the House took some of mine in old prize barn & went to striping Sam filled Cow rack Carried some shucks & Shucks & Straw to cutting House, - Wind Ceased about night, -

19th Very pretty fair day wind Blew some—

20 Very pretty morning Cutting on out Side in Johns field this morning & will finish soon The Closet Key has not been seen since Nannie Went away Patty putting up Sticks where Peas Was last Winter or Spring—

21st Began to Mall in New ground yesterday Malling to day. cloudy & moderate weather I set One Hen this evening 15 Eggs under her

22nd Began to Plow up Tobacco yesterday evening & Began to Plow again this morning and Mall & about 9 oclock it commenced Snowing & Snowed all day after 12 oclock We Went to Striping Tobacco in old Prize Barn Sam Halled 2 loads wood for himself Snow about shew deep stoped about night weather turned a little cooler

23rd Striped in Richards Barn all day to day Me all the hands did not quite finish What we took of the body expect to finish in the morning & then Strip on mine balance of the day Snow has melted smartly have not seen the Sun day – No Nannie yet. weather bad –

24 Me Martin Smith Dolly Patrick & Sam Tucker striped in Richards barn & finished the body of the barn that we had took down & took 2 rooms of the top down in the body to come in order for striping when we can after 12 oclock all went old prize Barn with Sam G

1871 Feby 24 Rose Lain Mariah Smith Parthina Ben & Lewis & striped over 200 sticks striped Tobacco for me & I paid Rose Parthina Mariah & Dolly $1.00 Dolly I paid for Richard 9 & myself 9 balance of the Dollars to the others for myself Snow nearly gone again not very cold.

25 began to mall this morning in new ground & 11 or 12 Oclock it began to rain again & me & my folks went to Richards barn & took all the Tobacco out of the Top of the barn & went to striping till night did not rain much, Nannie come home in the rain to day Sallie is right smart, Ben went to mill to day for his daddy,- & Brought my mail

26 Raining to day & I did not go Prayer meeting this evening –

27 Tom Lain & 2 Daughters Bettie & alice Edmond Tucker Robot[Robert?], and Sam Tuck that I here[hear] went Richards Barn this morning & finished his Tobacco striping except 40 Sticks which I will finish myself first time it rains – Sam Gilbert Hauled out Load of straw & Hauld wood till night cleared off moderate wind Blew Hard to day

28th Malled till 12 Oclock then Sam Gilbert took Ben & Lewis & Hauled up 2 Stacks Oats in Granary to thrash to sew, fair windy day Sewed Tomattoe Seed in Box & peper & set Honey Suckle by Door Alex Hobson began to mall for me next to Mr Lewis

March 1 Beautifull day Nannie gone to the widow Colemans Sam G. & Martin Martin Matting Shelled Corn this morning Sam Tucker Plowing Lot for Tobacco Ben scattering Leaves before him Nannie Come back from Mrs Colemans
