1870 Oct 10th Cutting & Hanging Tobacco today & finished Cutting & nearly done hanging Tom Lain & Keatts cut all day Ed Bailess Andrew Wyatt Ben Lewis Charles Caroline & Sam hanging all day, - looks little like rain to night I went to Mount Airy to settle a Confederate debt due Estate of Jno D Hunt against Allen Scruggs Mr Pringle & Keen referees not closed or settled yet to be closed 24th Inst at Mount Airy cloudy & like for rain

11th Raining this morning a little halling in Tobacco from new ground first Ed driving the waggon

12 Sent Ben to PO. I went to Mr Starkeys Carriedmy wife & got 5½ lbs sole Leather in pt of what he owed me he owes 2½ lb now, weighed 3 lbs more weighed for me at Mr Starkeys, mine

13, I went to old place divided oats, and we are shucking & pulling off my corn & Sams & shucking of it mine smartly Sprougted Firing Tobacco back of Garden

14th Shucking & Housing corn shucks etc halled 1 Load stumps to finishe Curing Tobacco back of Garden fine weather at this time

15. Sam gone to Mill Yates he carried for himself nearly 1½ Bushel wheat & I sent nearly 1 Bushel of Old Corn & all I have My wife started to Mrs Colemans yesterdayyesterday Friday & they were going to Jerrys Kates & Fanney Moses & will come back next wednesday fine weather Ed & Doron plowing for wheat Keatts & Andrew fixing or fencing in fodder stacks in fresh ground Sams & mine & then will get grass nearly all day Did not get much grass, paid Ed & Doran for putting Tobacco in house etc - & Plowing for wheat this day —

1870 Sunday 16th My wife gone to Jerrys & to see them all up there fine weather I am at home by myself Ed & Doron gone to Riceville to meeting & also to St Andrews in evening

17th Plowing & Sewing wheat in Lot back of Stables Bowden Wheat Sewed there will Cover little Corn house to day Sam bushing in wheat in Lot began to Plow fresh ground Tobacco land for wheat,

18th Finished Lot & began in fresh ground

19th Sewing wheat in Tobacco land where we had Tobacco cut my yellow boar this morning Ben plowing began to sew wheat in corn Land. Cloudy, Sold 9 of my Sheepto Mr Welch to day

20th Raining this morning a little all day& nearly

21st Sewing wheat in fresh ground the other Side Granary, Digging Potatoes from 12 oclock till night ground to wet did not get done Sowing Bowden wheat all we haveSewed

22 I went up to Mr Cooks with alice on her way to school, Stayed all night Sunday. I Started back home & Jerry is to Carry her & very quick after I left Mr Cook was taken speechless they Sent for me to Come back & Mr Moses went back & he agreed with me to take alice On next morning & I came on home have not heard from him since I got home Sundaynight

23 I went to Election Mr Wm G Banks Come home with me & settled Jere H Graves acct & mine

24as Admt of JD Hunt Decsd Monday night night & Tuesday We are Sewing wheat by Grave Yard & in fresh ground Hallingwood Sent to Mr Creasys to sell 1 Tin Bucket Weighing 25½ lb Grass & 1 Butter full of Lard Weighing 28½ lb Grass to Sell for JD Hunts Est 54 lb Grass

25 Halling up Corn Sam made by his House & over on the Hill other side Tobacco Lot

1870 Oct 26 Halling up corn & cutting down

— 27. Same Work & like for rain

— 28. Same Work to Day till 12 oclock Hallled up some forks for shelter & Hay to put in Stable Loft for mules—

29th Sewing Wheats by Sams House to day fine day & weather moderate

30th Cloudy & Cool Doron gone to Mrs Colemans

31st Sewing wheat in Lot for part & on branchfixing next to tobacco Lot to day put Guano on part next to Path thro field, fine weather

1st Novr Large frost Cool night, fixing for Onions Sewing wheat in Lot on Branch & will finish there to day Sent to Mill for Keatts yesterday

2nd Pulling of corn Sewing wheat in brick Kiln Cut; I went to Mr Starkeys & wrote all day for him Writing up up his Books draw ing of his accts etc Rained in evening some

3rd Novr. I went to CH & back to day nearly finished Sewing wheat shucking Sams corn fine windy day weather moderate

4th Shucking Sams Corn & went to help Mr Whitehead Shuck Corn Halling up Logs for House for Edmond Tucker On Mountain till 3 oclock from 10 oclock Halling & Housing corn for Sam

5 Halling up shucks full Load into Cutting House Halled 5 Loads wood Sam Corded & then Halled up 1 Load corn & a ps & Recd 9½ Barrels Corn from Mr JR Whitehead he owed me 6th Hauled up Corn next to woods & pulled

6th I went to S Stone prayer meeting & nobody there, Cloudy & cool —

7th Killed Sheep & Shoat & turned Boar & 1 Black Shoat in woods with the others & shucked out out & Housed the corn we had halled up Keatts gone all day to day some where

8th Cutting in new ground getting wood & Putting corn, I went to election S Stone

1870 Novr 9th Sent Sam to Mill for me & himself got his meal, Keatts Halling up our corn & finished pulling & Halling up out of the field Halled up 1 Load Hay & put in Stable loft & went to Shucking Corn & shucked till 9 oclock Edmond Tucker laid the foundation of his House this morning Cool & windy yesterday

10th day to day moderate morning Shucking corn putting away shucks & Pulling Sams corn Planted Onion a few days ago in Nannies Patch on the Hill

11th Pulling & Halled up 3 loads of Sams corn to day Shelled Corn this morning & sent Ben with 1½ Bus Corn for Keatts today.

12th Keatts & Sam went to help Edmond raise house to day, S. S. Meeting to day Mr J. Moses here

13th Went to meeting to day fine weather

14 Nannie & me went to meeting at S Stone 2 professed during the meeting to day the Heifer we intended to Kill soon got out & we met her in the road near the plant & I went that evening down to Leeves & [wall?] & the Creek but Could hear nothing from her last evening nor this morning windy. Meeting Still goes on hauled up 5 loads of corn to day 1 Saturday morning & 3 friday making 9 in all. 15 hauled 4 more to day & went shucking

15 Finished getting up Sams Corn & Shuck somsome

16th Shucking Sams Corn to day fine frosty morning quite cool & clear to day

17th Did not Get done Shucking Sams corn Lain & Roby left at night & Charles did not Shuck but little & we did not finished. Clear pretty weather & we are Still Shucking Corn

18 Finished Shucking & put away 2 loads of Shucks to day Cloudy & Cold to day & Housing Sams Corn made 21½ Bbls & the 19th finished Housing corn & pulling our Greens this evening away

1870 Sunday 20th Stayed at home

21st Began to Pull of corn & finished about night

22 I went to old place yesterday — Began to Shuck Corn & soon it began to Rain & stoped us rained more or less all day worked in shop on plows some

23rd Cleared off & we are shucking this morning Doron started up to Jerrys to go with him to Lynchg to get some Clothes for him - quite cool this morning Edmond & 2 of his Boys came & helped ed us & we finished Shucking & putting in House & putting away the Shucks in Cutting House We made between Twenty & Thirty Barrels of Corn Ourselves 27 Bbls Got from Sam for my half of what he Made 21½ Recd from Mr Whitehead what owed 10 nearly Got this Bbls 60 I am to help Edmond 2 days cover his Houses & Hall Rocks for chimneys at Stony pint Very pretty day for winding up Corn

24th Sent Keatts to MIllers Mill 1 Bbl for me Meal Some for Sam & 1½ Bushels for Keatts Meal fine weather Sam going with Cart to help Edmond to day hall up slabs & Rocks for House for Edmond — My White Sow took the Boar about the 20th Novr 1870 & the young Black Spotted Shortly after Cherry had a Calf Heifer about the 18 Novr Red, Very pretty I have 1 white Boar 6 pretty Shoats & 4 Sows in all 11 head 25 Hailing this morning & rained

25th Nearly all day Keatts carried some Shucks over to where he lives 11 oclock when he got back Cut a few Shucks & went
