1870 Novr 25th Come back ½ after 2 & mend ed little Basket Sam & my self stack cabbage Over as the stack he first put up fell down We made 2 stacks & covered them, very disagreeabkle day quite cool

26 Cut wood & Halled it up I went to old place to see about measure up corn

27th Richard came home from Hurts Store

28 I went to Hiram Lains to measure corn for Jerry, Keatts went to Help Edmond Cover his House Sam Went to getting Boards for Cow Shelter & Stable, Laine made about 15 or 16 Bbls Corn

29th We made Cart tounge[tongue] to big cart to day Halled up Boards for Stable & Cow Shelter Keatts Starked to Plowing in Johns field 2 Horses I went to Lewis Yates this to see about Warranting Raleigh Tucker & others, Cloudy moderate My Young Black Spotted Sow had 6 pigs a few days ago

30th Covered Stable on Hill covered Cow shelton[shelter] etc Charles Halled wood Doron came home this evening

Decr 1st I went to Mr Creasey Mr Hunts place Mr Wm Moses & to See Archie Worsham & got back about 8 oclock on the night Keatts plowing for Corn Sam Cutting some Halling wood & leaves

2nd Keatts Helping Edmond to day Killed Beef this morning clear Beautifull weather Fixing to Kill Hogs tomorrow morning Carried Beef Hide to Starkeys

3rd Killed 6 Hogs this morning Edmond & his Son Sam helped me Sam Gilbert Killed 2 of his, this morning fine weather finished a little before night Doron Carried 1 Log to Millers Mill to day 10 or 11 feet long weather a little cooler & clear

1870 Decr 6th Helped Sallie Kill her Hogs to day & We killed Monday 4th - Cutting wood for plant Bed on road I went to shop Banks Mount Airy & Mr Millers & I have assigned to me to pay AJ Lewis debt due J D Hunt Estate 3 Bonds of $1000 each from Thomas J Lovelace for Crew's Land Sold by Banks as assignee am first to pay the Debt I have of $1500 & pay to pay N.C. Miller When collected upwards of $800. & balance to Wm G Banks pr my Rect given Banks got 2 Bonds due 72 & 73 with JW from 70 yesterday the other Bond I got sometime ago pr my Rect

7th Burning Plant Bed On Road torwards EG Lewis RainingJames Doran Hunts school broke up a little this evening cooled

8 Finished plant Bed on road & sewed it & took till nearly night I went down to Jno Powers on business for them & Stayed till night

9th Fenced in Plant Bed & Sewed it, -

10th Halled 1 Log to Millers Mill yetserday & 1 to day I went to meeling Cloudy & like for snow cutting fire wood in new ground

11th Hailing & Rained nearly all day I did not go to meeting, Windy & Cold nearly all day

12 Cleared off & we began to strip tobacco Edmond had my 2 or three times & I have given it him &have planks for Doors & Some big nails rather to drying to Strip tobacco So we are fanning to pay Geo Coleman for Board

13 Sent Sam to Millers Mill 6 Bushels Wheat for flour Sam Sent 2 Bushels wheat Keatts 2 Bus Wheat 1 Bushel for Mrs Wyatt 2 Bus for Sallie 2½ Bus Corn for Keatts & got 1 Turn Meal & choped Rye Sent last week & Recd from CE Miller 2½ Gallons Peach and 4 Galls & 1 pint applePeach Brandy the Estate Peach & mine together in ½ Barrel of mine

1870 Dec 13 My 4 Gallons & 1 quart apple Brandy in Estates Barel of apple Brandy

14th Halled Some Short & good Corn from JR Whiteheads - Sent Keatts to Mill got flour etc this evening. Sam went to cutting

15th Sallie H Whitehead moved away to Hunts Store this morning & My Waggon Keatts & Sam gone up there too to day & Doron Jere Jackson went yesterday, left cutting Knife collars & Sow & Pigs here at Tuckers tolerable good day wind Blows Cool JR Whitehead been gone for 3 weeks Sam & Keatts gone with a Load up to Richards Doron Carried Sallie & Children - ben & Lewis doing 16 by LookLooking for all back this evening – 17 Halling wood & Litewood to day Keatts Went after his Cupboard in evening with waggon& is to work for me 1 day after Christmas for it striping Tobacco -

18 & 19 20 & 21 Cutting in new ground Hauled Wood 1 log Cleaned up on branch 1 day Hauling leaves & Plowing Rained hard 1 night Killed hogs at Mr Hunts place this the 22nd I am going up there to day

23 Fat Brot from old place for my wife to try up we have been fixing up Lot fence Gates etc Chinking stables etc Hauling wood in evening very cold James Doron Hunt stoped going to school to Mr Thomas Fitzgerald the 7th Decr or the School Broke up the 7th Decr 1870

24. 25. Very Cold weather indeed

26 & 7 Quite cool & like for snow

28 Quite cold & snowed Snowed some at night & Raining nearly very sloppy & wet to day —all day this day Doron gone up to Richard & Mr Haleys yesterday Ed Fitzgerald here about this time

29 snowed last night quite cold this morning cleared off Doron nor Ed did not come hear last night snow about 2 inches Deep

30 Cold Windy day Snow did not melt

1871Janry 1st news years day Edmond Tucker moved to mountain to day & Martain Smith moved yesterday up here at Richards Place Fair moderate day Mr Joseph M Moses came here last night, - I have seen Keatts since last Tuesday or Wednesday Caroline here yet

Janry 2nd 1871 I went to Millers mill to see if Plank was sawed not sawed, went from there to Mr Banks tofrom there to Chalk Level & Back, Sam cutting in new ground,

3 Raking & Halling leaves in Cow Pen & Lot all day letit Edmd have my cart & steers to day to Haul Corn & fodder to day

4 Raking & Hauling leaves, 5th Same work

6. Sam gone to Mill Carried for me 1 Turn TwoBus Corn for chop 1 Turn for himself & 1 for Martain Smith I have been to JR Whiteheads Jerrys both of the Moses & got home last night No hands for myself but Sam & his gang & have only got one hand at Mr Hunts place

7 Hauling leaves with waggon & Raking leaves

8 Sundy Cold day & windy I went to meeting S S

9 Cutting in new ground Clear this morning very cold this morning last night Very Windy

10 Hauled up Hay & litewood & Cut in new ground

11 Cutting Hauling wood etc Weather moderate

12th Cutting in new ground Hauling Shucks for Mrs Wyatt to day — moderate weather I am going to old place to day clear moderate weather today Very fine weather clear

13 Cutting in new ground Hauled Shucks for Mrs Wyatt from Shields, Mrs Wyatt came here 12 Janry to cook

1871 Janry 14th Sent Sam to Mill 1 Barrel Corn for me meal & some for Mrs Wyatt to Yates Mill could not get it no water in the Pond cloudy & like for rain very moderate weather warm

15. warm night & began to Rain soon this morning & rained nearly all day long & sometimes quite hard till 1 or 2 Oclock then stoped

16th. clear morning lent JJ Kelley at old Place 15 Bags 3 old ones lent to Carry oats & corn in -to Carry our wheat there to Lynchg Hauling shucks to feed with & took down a little Tobacco in barn back of Garden to strip, Marten Smith moved to where Keatts lived last year & is to live with me this year I give him 4th part of what we make agreeable to our bargain which I will write & close in a few days. 3 waggons started from old place with near 100 Bus. wheat to Lynchg to pay Taxes, Jesse J Kelley going give $5½ to pay toll, I am to give 9¢ pBus. & find them contents of Box I found myself to clerical Chch to Richmond & sent by old place waggon & letter to Colo Hamner Lynchg viz. 1 Bushel meal for JW Graves 1 Do Do for JH Graves ½ Bushel flour for JW Graves near ½ Bushel Irish Potatoes by JW Graves 2 ps Pickled beef by JW Graves ½ Bushel meal by Mrs L Wooding 1 shoulder Pickled Pork by same — Several from the Church at S Stone was to Send & Bro. Yates was to make the Box & they failed to make the Box or to send any thing to put in it Plowing for oats Doron & Ben

18. Plowing for Oats Doron & Ben, Martin Smith began to work here yesterday 17th as pr agreement. Sam & Martin & Lewis Cutting in new ground big growth, - my Hogs all gone except young sow & her pigs the other gone for about 4 days have not seen nor heard of them at all, little cloudy to day.
