Sun May 1st Cloudy in the morning but cleared up and was quite nice. Lew trained Prince some to day and likes him pretty well. Mother and I went up to John Dragers to see little Grace found them all doing pretty well. Coming back we stopped at Mr Hoags and got some seed potatoes about a bushel part Early Ohio and part Rose seedings.

Mon May 2 A cloudy cool [lowry?] day but didnt rain enough to keep us from work. We all planted some rose seedling some early Ohio and some snow flake potatoes after the boys had cleaned out the cistern in the afternoon. I prepared slips and the boys hauled 5 loads of manure and put it on to the west side of the lower orchard.

Kib plowed for oats got done. I prepared slips.

Fri May 6 Cloudy and cold most of the day. Lew harrowed this forenoon with Nell and Topsy and drilled oats in the afternoon. Kib went to Mr Dixons in the forenoon and harrowed on the small pieces east of the lake in the afternoon. I sowed the three small pieces east of the lake using about 80 bushels of oats so I suppose that there is a little over 3 acres of ground there.

Mon May 9 Some sunshine in the fore part of the day and a cold dismal rain in the latter part. We had Mr foot helping us at the fence over on the hill. We got the posts set and are about ready to streatch [stretch] the wire on it. I have been bothered a good deal about the ditch business to day. This miserable Larimer Co ditch Co want us to let them enlarge the Dry Creek Lateral and run water into Long Pond.

Tues May 10 Cloudy and nasty all day and rained some several times and is raining a little now. Lew and Mr Foot worked at putting on wire over on the hill. Kib and I dug the holes and set the posts below the orchard and I went up to see if the head gate would do that. Mr Birdsall was butting in and helped a while.
