Tues Aug 2 Pretty nice day only awful hot. Jake went to town with Mandy and the cart and has just got home. Kib raked up the hay over on the hill and Lew has been shocking it after he got the ditch fixed and the churning done. I mowed all day on the natural meadow and have got it a little over half done. The crop there is the best that it has been ever I guess.

Wed Aug 3 A good deal like yesterday only the wind gave us several pretty hard gusts and scattered the shocks and bunches badly. Lew finished shocking over on the hill and shocked the rest of the day up on the natural meadow and has now gone to town. Kib raked steady all day and got the natural meadow all done just about common quitting time. I finished cutting the natural meadow just before noon. This afternoon I shocked a good lot.

Thurs Aug 4 Pretty nice hay day only it was pretty hot and the wind blew a time or two pretty hard. The boys hauled the hay from over on the hill at 4 loads and this afternoon they hauled a load of alfalfa that was cut around the dykes and ditches. This forenoon I finished shocking the natural meadow and shocked the hay around the dykes and ditches. This afternoon I irrigated some of the patches here at home.

Fri Aug 5 Pretty fair day on an average had a little shower about 4 O clock and quite a big wind afterwards. Jake left us to day. We settled and I paid him $49 50/100 and I expect he has gone to bolder [Boulder]. Lew and Kib hauled hay. They hauled and stacked 4 loads of hay from the native. I finished irrigating the corn between the house and Barn and the lawns and the upper orchard and done other chores.

Sat Aug 6 Didnt rain to day nor did the wind blow much. We hauled 3 loads of good blue stem hay and one of alfalfa hay that grew on the east side of the blue stem meadow. We got a small stream of water and are trying to irrigate the alfalfa over on the hill with it.

Sun Aug 7 It thundered around a good deal to day and rained a little. We all kept Sunday to suit ourselves to day and to night. Lew has gone on. Dexter he says to church and I dont know but what he has.

Mon Aug 8 Pretty hot with a little sprinkle once or twice and wind enough to keep the boys from unloading their load of hay. Lew mowed the piece north of the barn then afternoon him and Kib hauled the gleanings and rush hay from the bluestem meadow but couldnt unload it for wind. Then he cut a little wheat. Kib raked over the meadow in the forenoon. I hunted and found water and various other chores.

Tues Aug 9 Pretty nice all day only pretty warm. Lew helped to unload a load of hay on to the top of the native hay stack. Then he took old Kate down to Gus Carsends and brought back a couple of mares and colts then he finished cradling around the wheat. Kib raked and shocked the alfalfa piece north of the barn. I irrigated right smart over on the hill and tried to some from the basin racks gate but they have got the ditch gouged down so much that I cant get any water out unless the ditch is half full.

Wed Aug 10 Very nice warm day. We got the piece of wheat ready for Mrs Farrer then Lew cut the piece of alfalfa north of the house. I irrigated potatoes and alfalfa over on the hill but the water from the Dry Creek ditch has run down to 24 inches so it spreads slow. Kib done sundry chores. Old Bess had a nice spotted heifer calf and we call her Star.

Thurs Aug 11 Very nice day but pretty warm. The thermometer marked 92° a little after noon. Mr Reed Farrer came and cut the wheat to day. Lew done various odd jobs to day. Kib raked and helped shock the piece north of the house. I finished irrigating the piece over on the hill and turned the water to Mr Bee. I allso [also] finished irrigating the potatoes this morning. The Larimer Co Ditch Co began to run water from Long Pond tues I think and so turned water into their ditch and we are told that the division gives 5 inches to the share.

Fri Aug 12 Fine but pretty hot. Lew went up to the ranch with Bonny and Lady and their colts. Kib and I filled the cistern finished shocking the piece north of the house and finished setting up the wheat and then hauled and stacked a good load of hay and we had quite a bit of company too. Billy Barnes is here and gave a boat riding with Kib and Meda and Kate and Dr Miller and his brother.
