coffee. The coffee was hot and that is all you could say for it.

There were twenty one posts on the guard that were enough for a camp twice the size. A couple of months later it was cut to three posts. While I was confined to camp I couldn't bare to see all the good moonlight nights go to waist, so Herb. Kendall, or Charlie Grant, and I usedto run the guard and go for walks in the evening in the country. We got away with it allright, but nearly got caught several times.

Wednesday May 22 '18.

Was on duty from 8:30 until 12:45 in the M.P. office. -- Got orders for all the cadets to be ready to leave for flying school. I got permission along with fifteen other cadets to go to Niort. The truck broke down eight km. from town, and we had to walk in, and it was terribly hot with all the stuff we had to cary. Had a fine time with Charlie Grant salling on some of his French friends. Came home on the train as we missed the truck. -- Went on patrol with Frank Grady from 9 unitl 10:30 P.M.

ariane landed right by Charlie Grant and myself while I was turning. Scared six years growth out of us. They put Herb on another machine as soon as we reached the park, so from there on I was alone. A piece of elclat hit between Charlie and Ray Bontz while they were standing and talking to each other. Charlie's nerves were pretty well shattered. The last ram started home at 11:30. most of the time. Charlie Grant made me a call and had dinner with me. I went home with him and listened to the phonograph. they have in their barricks. It seemed mighty good to hear some good music. When I got home I noticed that Fox had a stove. I asked him where he got it, and he said up at the Princton barricks. He also said that there was another one there. me tripple sec instead of watter to put into red wind and citron. I drank enough to make five ordinary men have the D.T.'s. George Young took us on the rounds of the out of bounds houses at 9 P.M.

* Had the roming guard post from 8:30 until 12:45. First time as a military Police. Our baggage is lost and the railroad officials are unable to locate it. Shot on the rifle range this afternoon, and it was as hot as sinn.
