Got off at 3 P.M. -- Herb and I went over and had supper with Clare Lorey. Took in the movies at the Officer's Y.M. when we got back. -- Wish that I would get some mail.

Sunday March 5, '18. Went down town with Lt. Springer. Saw Ruben Sebastion. He is a 2nd Lt. in Chemestry dept. He wants me to take dinner with him. Went down town again in the evening with Lt. Springer and Herb, and had a very enjoyable evening at the Officer's Cafe.

We got into Neauechateau ten minutes after our fellows. We had a good meal with the whole bunch at a hotel, and left for Grondecourt at 4:45 got here at 6:30, and was too late to get anything to eat.

Saturday Apr. 27. '18.

Drew our guns, helmets, and belts. Went over to the flying field in the afternoon. Didn't get up. Met Bob. Blake down town in the morning and had dinner with him after I got home from the aviation field. Bob and I went over to the artillery school and spent a very pleasant evening with Clare Lorey.

Sunday Apr. 28 '18.

Bummed around camp all day.

Monday Apr. 29. '18.

Started school. Had an hours drill and games from eight until nine. Started in on the Lewis machine gun at nine. Tried to remember so much today that my head nearly split. We have three days for the Lewis then exes. It seems as if it would take me a year to learn all that we have to learn

Friday March [corrected to May] 3, 1918.

Continued on the pistol in the morning. Went out on the range in the afternoon and shot the pistol. Our squad put up a purse of fourty francs fore the first, second, and third man of 25, 10, & 5 francs. I got second money with a score of 13. First money was won by a score of 16.

Band concert in the evening. Lee Emery fainted in formation this morning.

to be in Groudrecourt an extra week. Have school from 7 to 9 P.M., a new order, which makes us all very peaved.

Tuesday May 7 '18.

"Carried on" with the Vickers in the morning. Went on the range in the afternoon. Fired on wrong target. A fierce thunder and rain storm in the evening. Got soaked while on the way to school.

Wednesday May 8 '18.

Didn't go on the range this afternoon because of rain. Answered Hazel's letter this evening in school.

Thursday May 9 '18.

Went on the range in the afternoon. Won second money, 15 francs, and won 32 francs from Pery Patton at a 1/2 franc a point. Beat him by 64 points. Herb and I had dinner with Clare Lorey at the artillery school.
