burst beside the trench that they were in for shelter. Shells were bursting on all sides of them. The cars were hit after they had left them to get into the trench. Raining, a pitch black night. Hard time following the road. Four hundred shells droped in Sauper on July 14.
Peularnd, Howard (High), & Higans got back at 9:30 from convoi. They visited the front line trenches. Were withing fifteen ft. of the Germans. A captain and major escorted them through, and had the men throw some hand grenades for their amusement. The whole camp envy them.
July 19, 1917 (Thursday)
Left on convoi at 3 P.M. Carried trench supplies to Chateau Souper. Very heavy bombardment.
