Sunday Oct. 7 '17.

It was one hell of a day. Windy and the rain came down in torents [torrents]. We had a sixteen car convoi at 1 P.M. from Bazoches to a village just below the Chemes des Dames, about three miles in back of Selles. It was pitch dark by 5:30 and before we got through Braine, at Chassemy Tedford got stuck in a hole and had to be pulled out. It was so dark that I had to go in second most all the way from

Saturday Oct. 13 '17.

Worked on car. -- Dick Sias and Ernie De Chane left at 5 o'clock this morning for Paris. Got their orders to go at 1 A.M. Dick got a second lieut. and Ernie a first lieut. in artilery [artillery]. There are twenty two of the original fourty [forty] two left. Hope the rest of us go soon.

Sunday Oct. 14 '17.

En repos. Went to the Y.M.C.A. tent in the evening to a band concert. Very good band. Reminded me of S.F. 1915. It was just as cold. Two Americans were very good on the piano and mandolin.

Chemes des Dames. They are now well into the quary region. If in the next three days, as they expect to make three more similar attacks, they can drive the Huns out of this region it will be a great and grand victory. Heres hoping. It rained all [deleted]the[deleted] day. Sometimes hard. The aeroplanes were up notwithstanding the rain.

Wednesday Oct. 24 '17.

Stayed in camp all day. Rainy and cold. Violent artillery action. Mat went on convoy.

Thursday Oct. 25 '17.

Took no. 12 out to have our pictures taken by the official war photographer. Worked on car. - - Artillery
