Committee Retportsetc. Report of Justice N Soderberg for month of Aug. referred to Finance Committee. Report of City Clerk submitting Alphabetical list of names of All Streets in the City Referred to Street Committee. Committe Reports Recd From Finance committee on report of City Justice H F Jones & Jailor's reports as follows "we beg to report the additions on the reports are correct. In this connection we wish to state that in future your committee will be in a position to examine the reports and compare them with the police records properly, noting the time all arrests are made as well as the time when prisoners are discharged", adopted. From Street Committee granting the petition of F W Wald & others for opening the alley in Block 30 Maynard's Plat so as to make it passable for teams. Adopted.

378 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE [?] 30 1888 the illness of D. T. Denny esq. one of said appraisers: It is ordered that M. R. Galloway having hereafter been appointed to act on behalf of the owners of property condemned is reappointed to act in their behalf; and L. B. Andrews having been hereafter appointed to act on behalf of the owner of property benefited is reappointed to act in their behalf: whereupon the acting Mayor appoints Geo Kinnear to act as such appraiser on behalf of the city. The Chairman of the Fire & Water Committee submits plans for a new style of hydrant. On motion the same are referred back to the Committee with instructions to compare the same with other plans and submit estimate of cost. Ordered that F. Hochbrunn be granted one week further time to blast stumps from Block "Q" Denny's 6th Addition. Ordered that the Street Commissioner be instructed to work all prisoners in the city jail in the street chain gang; The ironing of said prisoners to be left to the discretion of the Street Commissioner. Ordered that the Plat of Rengstorf's Addition to the City of Seattle be approved. The City Atty. submits a report approving deed given by H L Yesler dedicating a portion of Mill Street. Ordered that Councilmen Russell City Clerk Forrest be appointed a special committee to confer with H. L. Yesler Esq in regard to straightening South Eleventh Street. Ordinances An ordinance

464 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE May 11 1888 Be it remembered that on this 11th day of May A.D 1888, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in in it's Council chamber pursuant to adjournment, the following officers are present to wit: His honor the Mayor Thos T Minor and Councilmen Furth, Frink, Green, Lake, Russell & Reitze and W R Forrest Clerk. -- The following proceedings are had, to wit: -- Petititions and Communications Petition of F W Woodaman & others for the grading of Cherry Street from Fourth Street to Thirteenth Street as originslly petitioned for and not from Fifth Street to Broadway as ordered by the Council read and referred to Committee on Streets. -- Petition of J B Metcalfe & others for straightening South Eleventh Street from Mill Street to Jackson Street read and referred to Street Committee with power to act & the Committee requests to examine & report as to the advisability of grading said South Eleventh Street from Mill Street to Lane Street. Remonstrance of A. A. Denny and others against opening streets on tide flats at the expense of the general fund, read and referred to the city attorney. Petition of T S Briscoe and others for establishing grade of Sixth Street between the South side of Union Street and North side of Spring Street, and grading and building sidewalks on both sides of said Sixth Street between said points, read and referred to the Street Committee and the Committee directed to report to Depot Street. _________________________________ _________________________________ Petition of the Seattle Cable Road and Water Co for the return of a certified check for $1000 heretofore

484 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jun 1 1888 Committee Reports rec'd From Street committee granting petition of F A Churchill and others for grading and building a sidewalk on the north side of Bluff Street from Light Street to Powell Street Adopted and City Surveyor directed to submit plans and specifications therefor at the next regular meeting. From same Committee granting petition of W F Epler ans others from grading and building sidewalks on both sides of Harrison Street from the west Side of Box Street to the Bay, provided said sidewalk was only laid on the South side of said street from Kentucky Street to Box Street. Adopted and the City Surveyor directed to submit plans and specification therefor at the next regular meeting. From same Committee granting of J J Post & others for grading Fifth Street from the south side of Seneca Street to the north side of Mill Street and building sidewalks on both sides of said street. Adopted and the City Surveyor directed to submit plans and specifications therefor at the next meeting of the Council. From same Committee granting petition of F W Sparling & others for grading Spring Street from Seventh Street to Ninth Street and building sidewalks on said street. Afer discussion the report is re-referred to the Street Committee. From same Committee granting petition of J B Metcalf & others for straightening South Eleventh Street from Mill Street to Jackson Street and grading and building sidewalks on both sides of said street and recommending that the City Surveyor be instructed to submit plans and specifications for such improvement: And the City Attorney prepare on ordinance condemning such private porperty as may be necessary for straightening

497 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jun 1 1888 to attend to the collection of licenses. On motion the Plat of Monroe & Whipple's Addition to the City of Seattle is rejected. Ordinances 941 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance granting the use of the foot of Main Street in the City of Seattle to Thomas Ewing his heirs and assigns for ferry purposes", which after due consideration is passed by the following vote, to wit: In favor of the same Frink, Green, Lake, Neisz, Russell and Reitze. Against the same none. 942 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to widen and straighten South Eleventh Street in the city of Seattle Washington Territory, and to provide for the condemnation of real estate necessary therefor", which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Frink, Green, Lake, Neisz, Russell and Reitze. Against the same none. 943 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance establishing the grade of Tenth Street in the City of Seattle between Seneca and Cedar Streets", which is passed by the following vote, viz: In favor of the same Frink, Green, Lake, Neisz, Russell & Reitze. Against the same none. 944 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the grading of Tenth Street in the City of Seattle from the West Marginal Line of Broadway to the south marginal line of Seneca Street and constructing sidewalks on both sides of said Tenth Street", which after due consideration is passed by the following vote, viz: In
