473 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 18 1888 be tabled. Adopted. From the same Committee granting petition of A A Bell & others from grading and building sidewalks on both sides of Wall Street from Elliott's Bay to Depot Street. and City Surveyor directed to submit plans and specifications from such improvement at the next meeting of the Council. Adopted From the same Committee rejecting petition of E D Briscoe & others for grading Sixth Street from Spring Street to Marion Street as the petition has not been signed by a majority of the property owners, and your committee is that a petition will be presented to the Council for the grading of said Sixth Street from Depot Street to Spring Street. Adopted From the same Committee rejecting petition of A A Bell & others for opening Bell Street from Seventh Street to Depot Street as there does not appear to be any urgent necessity for opening said street at the time. Adopted. From the same Committee to whom was referred theOrdinance asked for by the Seattle Street RailwayCompany, amending the franchise heretofore granted said Company as follows: "We do not think it advisible to grant said Seattle Street Railway Company and other or further priviledges than have already been granted it by the City and therefore recommend that the petition benot granted and that said ordinance be not passed. Adopted. From the same Committee rejecting petition of the West Street-Lake Union and Park Transit Company for a street Railway Franchise. Councilman Reitze of the Committee presents a minority report recommending the granting of the franchise under certain conditions and restriction. 481 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jun 1 1888 Be it remembered that on this 1st day of June a.d. 1888, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamer pursuant to the law The following officers are present, viz, His Honor the Mayor Thomas T. Minor, Councilmen Furth, Frink Green, Lake, Russell and Reitze, and W R Forrest, Clerk. Absent Councilman R. Moran. The following proceedings are had, to wit Petitions, Communications, Petition of E S Briscoe for grading and building sidewalks on both sides of Sixth Street from the north side of Spring Street to the south side of Union Street, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of S.M. Sorenson and J. R. Williamson for a sewer in Spring Street to an outlet or connection with some other sewer. Also for a sidewalk on the north side of Spring Street, read and referred to Committiee on Sewers. Petition of J.M. Thompson for a franchise for a Cable Road on Front Street & other streets read and referred to Street Com. Petition of Seattle Street Railway Company for an ordinance confirming their franchise for a Street Railway on Front Street from Mill Street to Pike Street, read and referred to Street Committee Remonstrance of Street Railway Company against declaring forfeited their franchise for a Street Railway on Front Street from Mill Street to Pike Street, read and tabled for the present.

501 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE June 15 1888 a street railway franchise on Front Street read and referred to Street Committee and afterwards returned by the committee with the recommendation that the same be tabled as a number of the signers of the remonstrance have also petitioned the council for a Street Railway of Front Street Adopted. Committee Reports Received From Street Committee granting petition of J M Thompson for a Cable Road franchise in Front Street & other streets On motion consideration of the report is postponed for two weeks. From same Committee rejecting petition of the Seattle Street Railway Company for a franchise for a Street railway on Front Street adopted. From same Committee reccommending that the petitioin of F W Sparling and others for grading Spring Street between Seventh and Ninth Streets be taabled. Adopted. From same Committee granting petition of D M Sheafe & others for grading and building sidewalks on Temperance Avenue and the surveyor directed to submit plans and specifications. Adopted From same Committee returning without recommendation the petition of E S Briscoe & others for grading & building sidewalks onSixth Street from Spring Street to Union Street on motion the petition is tabled. From same Committee granting petition of W L Lindsley & others for opening Banner Street fromRoy Street to Depot Street. Adopted. From Health Officer on petition of J J Hohman & others for abatement of nuisance read and referred to Com on Serews & drainage.
