get farther east. When we went thru Kansas City, Cleveland Buffalo and a number of other large cities they blew whistles and everything else they could think of. In the smaller cities we were certainly treated royal. We went thru Ariz, Texas, Kansas, Missouri Illinois Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania New Jersey and New York. That is all the states I can remember. We got off twice a day for exercise, and sometimes to take a plunge. We went swimming ni the Wabash river one afternoon. In Hutchison Kansas they had automobiles out to meet us and took us all over the city. We had ice cream and cake there to. Coming thru Arizona the heat was pretty bad but only lasted for

about 36 hours. When we went accross the Ozark Mts. all we saw was barefooted people. I do not believe they knew what it is to wear a pair of shoes. Indiana was the prettiest state I think I ever expect to see. Words certainly cannot describe it. I would surely like to take an automobile trip thru it. There is surely a million and one towns in that state to. All thru that country the people would be out with flags and horns to meet us. I wish you could have seen the factory windows when we went thru Kansas City

I don't quite know what he alludes to - in regard to Les - but suppose it is the heart trouble.

A letter from Les came this am [a.m.]. from Kansas City -- said he had enjoyed passing through New Mexico with its adobe houses with red pepper all all over them --- that & the [illegible] made great color!. He should be at Garden City Now we think Said the road was so rough he could hardly write.
