232 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Jul 15 1887 Canvass of Election Returns And now the Council proceeds to canvass the returns from the several wards of the election for City Officers for the City of Seattle held on the 11th day of July 1887 and upon the said canvass finds as follows to wit: Whole number of votes cast: 1329 For Mayor Dr. Thos T Minor received 705 votes For Mayor W H Shoudy received 623 votes

For Chief of Police Wm Murphy received 651 votes For Chief of Police Jas C Mitchell received 581 votes For Chief of Police J H Woolery received 95 votes For Chief of Police D McDaniels received 2 votes

For City Attorney L C Gilman received 701 votes For City Attorney Fred H Peterson received 617 votes For City Attorney H McFarland received 1 vote For City Attorney T J Humes received 2 votes

For Councilmen for the First Ward: Charles F Reitze received 187 votes O N Morse received 171 votes J F McDonald received 15 votes Scattering 5 votes

For Councilmen for the Second Ward: Uriah R Niesz received 216 votes Chas McDonald received 146 votes Chas Von Dungen received 1 vote R H Calligan received 4 votes

233 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 15 1887 Scattering 12 votes For Councilmen for the Fourth Ward Ward: Robert Moran received 138 votes T D Hinckley received 107 votes Whereupon the Council finds that the names of the persons elected to the Several Offices are as follows to wit: Mayor Thomas T Minor Chief of Police Wm Murphy City Attorney L C Gilman Councilman from the First Ward Chas F Reitze Councilman from the Second Ward Uriah R Niesz Councilman from the Third Ward Joseph Green Councilman from the Fourth Ward Robert Moran and the clerk is directed to issue certificated of election to the above named persons. Ordinances An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to amend section 2 of Ordinance No 383 entitled 'an Ordinance establishing certain grades in the City of Seattle'" which is passed by the following vote: In favor of said Ordinance Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Lake and Russell Against none. An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance establishing a grade on Seventh Street from Madison Street to Mill Street in the City of Seattle" which is passedby the following vote, viz: Ayes Furth, Frink, Green, Hinckley, Russell & Reitze Noes none.

From City Attorney on the petitions of Moses Keezer and James Parke as follows: In the matter of the petitions of James Parke and Moses Keezer]] in regard to their assessments on the Mill Street grade I do not deem it advisible in the present state of the assessment to make the change they desire & would therefore recommend that their petition be denied.
