Mr. Cassiagni went in the Cutter to see what detained it at 8 oclock returned reporting that a landing could not be made through the surf a heavy swell had now set in. there evidently being a heavy gale in some part of the the Bay. No change [chance] of getting of[f] the jolly tonight so Mr. L must remain on shore all night.
Saturday December 4th. 1858
Capt. & Capt. Faithful went in the Cutter this morning to examine the coast. found a heavy Surf beating all along the coast. Could not land. Cassiagni went in the P B Boat to anchore outside the surf & pass a Bouy line through the surf to bring of[f] the jolly did not come off again & we could see from the ship that the boat has got swamped & Cassiagni

him 12 oclock. Man on shore for letters non arrived [struck through: went ashore] remained on board all the evg. Dibbs on bd. turned in about 9 Hamilton came on board afterwards
Wednesday December 8th. 1858.
Up at 6 had a bath. beautiful cool day. read Watson P. Physic on Ague. went ashore in the evg. & called at the Capts.. he & Mrs. E going out to Law's Walked along with them lost little Kate found her in the Ghaut. when I came down to go on bd. between 7 & 8.
Thursday December 9th. 1858
Up at 7 Morris came on board Stables & [struck through: Motley ] Dunford in the Port Cutter. Merchants Ball to take place this evening. Flagstaffs & one or two of the ships dressed. read lecture on Pathology in Watson. Lect No 2.

mentioned that Subliuepore[?] was filled up by a Dr. Jackson & that there were 3 or 4 Candidates mentioned to him that I only noe regrettrd not having gone up for the Cos. Examination before coming out. Said I could do so yet. Anchored at Sing Gong [underscored] between 6 & 7 ocl.
Monday Decr. 13th 1858
Under weigh this morning again at day light proceeded up to Tody Paura & anchored there. Sepoys sent ashore in the PB Boat to march up to Sandoway. Convicts & Sepoy gd. sent up to Sandoway in the PB Boat. the Gunner & Mr Law with her. After breakfast Capt Col. Sale Dr. Brown & 2 young men passengers & myself went up to Sandoway in the Cutter Called at Dr. Jones then on

Up at daybreak. walked an hour on deck went down & dressed expect the "Sr. Warrine" today "Sr. Burmah" arrived today at 4 ocl bringing Mary & Willies letter of the 8th Novr. all well palau to leave on the 19th with inclosure from Fred

Up at 1/2 past 7 had a play at Single Stick with Cassiagni & Bowen before breakfast remined on bd. all day did not go ashore in the evg. reading North & South.
Friday Decr. 24th. 1858
up between 7 & 8 fine cool morg. dined at the Capts. at six ocl Xmas Eve. Met Mr & Mes. B Harper Dibbs Bowen Cassiagni Law. had singing after dinner sung Queens Letter & Across the Braes. got on bd. about 12 ocl.

Saturday Decr.25th. 1858.
Dressed Ship at 8 ocl. Dibbs Bowen Cassiagni went out boat sailing after breakfast in the Cutter. Had Goose turkey Ducks Fowl to dinner Xmas pud- ding [uneadible?] remained on bd. all day. Party at Law's but did not go turned in at 9 oclock so past xmas

Nothing particular today recd. a letter from Barry returning treasury dft. for 250/- for signature
Monday Decr. 27th. 1858
Answered Barry's letter this morning sent signed treasury draft for 250/- Dauk to leave at 6 oclock today Capt. Hicks of "Lady head" Came aboard this forenoon Bowen & Dibbs went ashore with him at 1 oclock. remained on bd. all day. Wrote 2 letters homw in the evening till 10 oclock. promised to write to my mother
