13 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 11 Be it remembered that on this eleventh day of November 1881, the Common Council of the Seattle, meets in its Chambers pusuant to law. The following officers are present to wit: His Honor the acting Mayor Jno Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm A Jennings John Keenan, Moses Keezer and Chas McDonald. A petition from R C Hartranft asking the Council to remit to him the amount of license ordered collected The Finance Committee returns Treasurers Report which was ordered filed. And now the Council proceeds to an election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of J H McGra as fire Warden, when R H Calligan was elected to fill said vacancy. Ordered that a warrant be drawn in favor of Chas McDonald upon the Fire Fund in the sum of $10.00 for the purpose of purchasing coal. And now that Street Committee report upon the petition of S S Rowe and others praying for the opening of Pike Street from 9th to 11th Streets and along the 11th Street to Pine Street, thereupon said petition is ordered laid on the table indefinitely. A report of the Health Officer regarding measures for the prevention of the intruduction of small pox was ordered filed. Ordered that the City of Seattle quarantine against the Cities of New Tacoma and Old Tacoma. Ordered that the health Officer be and is hereby instructed to enforse the Ordinance against the introduction of small pox. And now come the several persons herein after named and make application for the licenses hereinafter specified for the periods and from the dates herein after set out; and at the same time said applicants submit their several bonds in accordance with the

And now the Council opens the bids for the construction of the Jackson Street sidewalks and the 11th Street sidewalk, thus bids for each contract having been received, as following: Jackson Streetsidewalk Bid of Laurance Cummings $675. Bid of J.P. Roberts $635. Eleventh Street - Sidewalks Bid of Laurance Cummings $330 Bid of T.P. Roberts $310 Ordered that the contract for the construction of the Jackson Street sidewalk be awarded to J.P. Roberts. Ordered that the contract for the construction of the Eleventh Street sidewalk be awarded to J.P. Roberts Ordered that the bids under ordinances No 271, 272, and 273 be referred to a committee consisting of Messers Keenan, Densmore & Clancy with instructions to examine said bids and acertain which is the lowest and report at the next meeting of the council Ordered that W.B. Thompson be and he is hereby appointed policeman in the First Ward. And now the council proceeds to examine the assessment roll under ordinance No 268, no complaints being made against said roll and the same being found correct by the council is hereby approved & accepted Ordered that a leave of absence for one week be granted to street commissioner Calligan. Ordered that the Committee on New City Engine House be instructed procure the Cottier ventilator for the new building Ordered that the plans and specifications of the City Engine House as amended be and the same as hereby approved.

And now the Finance Committee make their report upon the regular monthly report of The Treasurer, that the same is corrrect: thereupon the Committee's report is accepted and the Treasurer's report is approved & ordered filed. And now The Committee on Streets and Street Improvements make their report upon the matter of collecting the delinquent taxes due on account of Jackson Street Side Walk; Thereupon the report is re-referred for additional report. And now The Committee on Streets and Street Improvements make their report upon the petition of John J. McGilvra for a sidewalk on the East side of 7th Street recommending that the petition be granted; thereupon the report is adopted and the prayer of the petition granted; And it is further ordered that the Judiciary and Legislative Committee be and they are hereby instructed to submit an Ordinance in accordance with the prayer of said petition. And now the Committee on Streeets and Street Improvements make their report upon the petition of Stewart and Ebersold for a side walk on the West side of Front Street recommending that no action be taken theron at present; Thereupon the report is accepted and the petition is laid on the Table. And now the Committee on Streets and Street Improvements make their report upon the petition of A. P. Spaulding et al for the opening of 11th Street from Main to Weller Streets, recommending that the same be opened from Main to King Streets; thereupon the report is adopted And it is ordered that the Street Comissioner be & is hereby instructed to open said 11th Street in accordance with the said report. The following claims having been duly audited by the Council are ordered paid by Warrants drawn on the Funds & in the Amounts following, towit Fire Fund F. S. Poole Hauling Engine to & from fire No 65 $10.00
