JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE with all the provisions of the said ordinance the Clerk be and he is hereby intructed to issue license to said applicants for the period and purpose following viz Names Description of License Term (Conimenes?) Blanchard Co Wholesale Liquor 1 year June 12 - 1882 do Retail do 1 " June 12 - 1882 Trainey & Ackery do do 3 mos June 3 1882 The following claims having been duly audited by the council are ordered paid by warrants drawn on the funds and in the amount as follows, towit: City Fund Seattle Chronicle Printing No 82 $80.10 Cemetery Fund Narcisse Lebrachs Slashing No 1 $100.00 And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 283, the same being entitled, "An Ordinance to provide for the levying and collecting of a special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of a sidewalk along the north side of Jackson Street from the west side of Eighth Street to the west side 9th Street, those crossing said Jackson Street to the south side thereof, and from there along the said south side of said Jackson Street to the west side of 12th Street, together with all necessary and lawful charges incident thereto" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit, In favor of adoption John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G.L. Manning. Against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 284, the same being entitled, "An special ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, towit: Commencing on Stewart Street at the alley which runs through block thirty-five(35), there along the north side of saod Stewart Street to the west side of Tenth Street, there along the west side of said Tenth Street to the north side of Virginia Street, there along the north side of said Virginia Street to the the north boundary line of the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Street Committee submit a contract between the City and T. P. Roberts for the construction of a sidewalk on Jackson Street; Thereupon said contract is approved and it is ordered that the mayor and clerk be and they are hereby instructed to execute the same on behalf of the City. Ordered that the Marshall be instructed to remove the peanut stand from the corner of Front and James Street. Ordered that E. N. Rea, contractor, be and he is hereby granted the right to land stone, on the Washington Street incline, to be used in the construction of the new City Building. A petition is received from A. A. Bell et al praying that roadway on Tenth and Stewart Streets be changed; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from J.H. Marshall et al praying for the opening of the alley in Block 2, Maynard's plat; thereupon said petition is granted. Ordered that the Council stand now adjourned until June 19th 1881, at 7:30 o'clock p.m. Attest: E S Osborne Clerk Approved L P Smith Mayor Be it remembered that on this the 19th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of June 16th 1882; Present: His Honor, the Mayor L. P. Smith and Councilman John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald & G.L. Manning Ordered that George Baker be authorized to maintain a peanut stand on James & Front Street. Ordered that a committee consisting of Chas McDonald, Wm. A. Jennings and G. L. Manning be and is hereby appointed to take into consideration the matter of Street Grading the City of Seattle. 94 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE The council proceeds to open the bids for the cleaning of the cemetery; the following bids have been received, viz, from B.F. Day for $180 per acre, J.H. Henry & J.M. Hoffman 600 for 2 acres, B.F. Lillie for $149 per acre, Patrick Forest $174 per acre, Walter France for $165 per acre. The bid of B.F. Lillie bring the lowest it is ordered that the contract be awarded to him at $149 per acre. Ordered that a warrant for $3250.00 be drawn on the fire fund in favor of John Collins, the proceeds to be used for the purchase of a new ground fire engine. And now in pursuance of notice duly published the council proceeds to the equalization of the special assessment polls under ordinance No 284, 281, and 276. No complaints being made against either of said special assessments it is ordered that they be and they are hereby accepted and approved. The Ordinance Committee are instructed to submit ordinances levying taxes in accordance with the provisions of ordinances Nos 284 and 281. The assessment roll under ordinance No 282, is laid over until next meeting of the council. Ordered that the council stand adjourned until Friday July 14th 1882. 108 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 4/82 The reports of the following officers are received and ordered placed on file, viz: Street Commissioner, Harbor Master, Fire Warden, City Justice, City Attorney. Ordered that the clerk be and he is hereby instructed to advertise for bids for the furnishing of the City with the following articles for the ensuing year; viz, Lumber and Stationery; and for bids for lighting the gas lights, and doing the printing of the City. Ordered that the Committee on Health and Police be and they are hereby constituted a Board of Health. Ordered that the council stand now adjourned. Attest Approved E.S. Aug 11/82 Be it remembered that on this the 11th day of August, 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle, meets in its council chamber pursuant to the call of the mayor and in accordance with ordinance No 292.
