Monday, Aug. 27,

Sweetheart,

We are now in a hotel in Rumford, Maine — sixty miles from Rangely on our home ward way, at least on our way to Lake George. It has been a very slow day, as once more we got off the state road and walked miles on a back country road with no hitches, the other two are very poor hikers, expect mountainous country to have level roads, and complain at the foot of every hill, and tire out very easily. I enjoy hills and would have a much better time with more congenial people, you for instance.

We stayed three days in Rangely, arrived late Friday afternoon, went to a hotel and were informed that the rates were eight dollars a day each, quite a shock, so we scouted around and finally located a room in a very nice and perfectly immaculate house
