WHEREAS, the citizens of Fort Worth have heard, with profound sorrow and regret, of the death of Guatavis F. Swift, in Chicago on Sunday morning March 29th. and,
Whereas, many citizens of Fort Worth are employees of the firm of Swift & Company of which the deceased was the head and whose financial genius was the main cause of the developement of the gigantic industry which bears his name; and,
Whereas, Fort Worth was honored by Mr. Swift by the locations and establishment of one of the great branches of his business near the City, thereby greatly adding to its wealth and population, and,
Whereas, the deceased was a man of great moral character,as well as a remarkable financier, and one whose name will adorn the financial history of his country and be a guide and inspiration for those who will follow him; and,
Whereas, the City government of the City of Fort Worth desires to emphasize its respect for the memory of a great man, who will, for all time be considered one of the great factors in the upbuilding of Fort Worth.
NOW THEREFORE, Be it Resolved that the City Council of the City of Fort Worth hereby express its genuine regret at the untimely death of Guatavis F. Swift, one of the really great business men of the United States, whose name has so recently become associated with that of Fort Worth, and extends its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased.
Resolved further, that the flags on all public buildings be placed and kept at half mast until after the funeral of the deceased and that the fire bell on the central fire hall be tolled for one hour beginning at the time fixed for the funeral of the deceased.
