At a meeting of the Vestry of St: John's Chruch held in the
Brick Chapel, on Tuesday, the 12: of May 1891
Present. Rev L. W. Burton, Rector, premiding, and
Messm Lynn Bossieux, R. L. Brown, John A Bustis. John F.
Mayer, G.G. Minor, for R. Roane, George L. Carrie, B. F. Howard
and George K. Taylor.
The meeting was opened with prayer; the minister of the last
meeting was lead and approved.
The Rector as Chairman of the committee on the Sesgun
Centennial of the erection of the church, made a report
as follows:
"Your committee having in charge the observance of
the Sesgui = Centennial of the erection of St John's Chruch, would
respectfully report that Bishop Whittle feels unable to take
any further part is the exercises of that day thou to period;
that Bishop Roudolph has accepted the invitation to preach
the sermon in the morning; and that the HowL W WestHenry,
a gaudson of Patrick henry, has consented to prepare the
historical paper for the evening. [Appericles] are the declination
of Bishop Dudley of Kentucky and Dr: Phillips
Brooks to deliver the oration in the evening, The chairman;
while in New York last week, made an earnest of fort
to see bishop Potter in person, to ask him to perform
the duty, but bailed to find him either at his office or
his residence. Your committeem taking all the circumstances
into consideration, would now recommend
that the idea of an orationa t night be abandoned,
and that W. Henry be informed that his will
be the pale address of the evening.
Your committe respectfully request that they be
authorized to have such a programme of services
on the Mt Rector may draw up for this occassion [illegible]
in such shape as to amount for a sourvenir.
They would in this connection also recommend that a
special invitation be [sect] the clergy and the vestry is of
all the other church in this Henrico Period to unite
with is in this celebration.
Your committee would further report that the subject
of a memorial of the anniversary was duly reported to
