stoit puis quil advenoit par nature si en amoient
dieu trop plus quant ilz veoient tant merveilleu
ses vertus. Et en veillerent par maintes nuits
a tresgrant joie et a grant estude de ce quilz troui
voient si haultes besoingues dont ils samenderent

the seven liberal arts, but they considered the effort to be

all that happened on earth in the natural course of things,
when they wanted to attend to it.
And they were also not surprised when they came across
a marvel, in the heavens or on the earth. Because they knew
that it had come in the natural course of things, and they
loved God all the more when they saw such marvelous
works. And so they kept watch for many nights
with great joy and intent study. They
found very exalted matters, through which they improved
